Truckstop Sushi
@jo92346 Hey Joe! I did this a couple years ago and I thought you might find it amusing. It’s the closest I’ve ever come to country music. I would love to do more, but my iPad won’t let me! I’m currently looking for some apps and libraries that will help. Wish me luck.
I was hoping to put some words to this one day. It’s about a long distance trucker, his dog, and some poor, late night dinner choices. If you ever think you might be interested, let me know. Peace, bro.

I see what was the intent. Sounds in between Irish folk and country. Pretty cool.
You don’t need plugins or libraries: everything is already in Logic, base sounds, effects, and some Apple Loops.
I can try to rework the arrangement if you like.
I enabled direct downloads if you would like to play around with it. I would really enjoy hearing some vocals on this. Long distance trucker is really hungry and he stops at a sketchy looking place. The kitchen is closed but they have some “sushi”. It looks pretty old. His dog won’t eat it, but he figures… what the hell. What could possibly go wrong?
No rush. Let me know if you need anything else. Have a great day!
Sure buddy 👍
Cool track @Paulieworld - it really motors along!
Thanks for listening. Have a wonderful day… although it’s probably night for you right now. Have a wonderful night!
Wait until you hear what @jo92346 did with this. It’s smokin!
Very good, a style and content I wouldn’t have a clue on how to create. Love the strings and guitar. Great stuff
Thank you!
Stay tuned for a new version by @jo92346 . He took this to a whole new level.
I listened to the rough draft this weekend and I'm still grinning from ear to ear!
well, now I better not underdeliver...
Looking forward to @jo92346 doing some shit kicking.
There it is. Still a bit rough, but that fits the theme.
This changes the original vibe considerably but it was a good choice to slow it down and add the lyrics, which fit perfectly and make a very catchy song!
Thanks @AlterEgo_UK
Here is (I think, until I modify it again and update) the final version on bandcamp: https://josephbalson.bandcamp.com/track/paulies-truck-stop-sushi
Just listened to the latest version - what a wonderful song. I’d love to hear a bluegrass band play this live - I mean, what a great time we’d all be having right? Full of joy - but I have to agree, sushi’s not what’s required at that time of night.
@BillS
@jo92346 is an amazing individual. He writes the music, plays the instruments, writes the lyrics, and sings them in a wide variety of styles. He does it all. My wife loves his “country” voice. I do, too. He sent me a new composition this morning that is completely unlike anything we have heard from him before. I want it to be a surprise, so I won’t say any more, except that you will dig it!
Don't make me blush @Paulieworld
I sing only with the monumental assistance of antares, literally hours of editing in flex and trying to denoise the takes and get rid of flutter echo (a problem I had when I made my cheap acoustic guitar album), and modifying the result in ai, before mixing all together until I get something close to the type of voice I want.
I only play relatively well the piano and bass. Any serious guitarist would laugh at my skills. Most other instrument I can do something with, but basically that knowledge is only useful to write something a real performer could actually play.
Thanks anyway, I appreciate. Feels awkward but better than being called names.
The telecaster twang and fiddles definitely give this a country flavor. The guitar noodles at the 1:17ish mark feel more like rock, but then again there are some country pickers that can play stuff like that in their sleep. Roy Clark was phenomenal.
Fun stuff Paul. Glad you posted this one.
Daaamn! I thought I already faved and commented, but looks like I didn't. Gave it a second listen Paulie, and your track definitely has that "country trucker smoking a cigarette while gulping down 4 pints of coffee on a long haul" vibe. Now, I'm not going to eat truckstop sushi nor enjoy it, but I'm certainly enjoying this music you made.
Hi Mac! I revived this after hearing Far From My Arms by @jo92346. I would love to do more like this, but the currently available music software doesn’t really lend itself to country music. I agree the Nashville studio guys are great. We had the pleasure of seeing Roy Clark at the Grand Ole Opry many years ago. He was in bad shape and needed help getting around. He only played a few songs. My favorite was What A Wonderful World. Not really country, but it was nice. People were crying. He mostly sat in a tall chair and told stories and jokes. Everyone was laidback and mellow… then Trace Adkins came on!
It’s day 3 of a 4 day break, and I’m sitting outside watching the birds and squirrels, drinking some strong coffee. Life ain’t half bad. Hope you all are having a good life. Peace, bro.
Hey Jimmy! You probably did, but that was over 2 years ago. I can’t remember what I had for dinner last night! I liked your last few creations. I think I liked the NS2 one best. Gadget is still great, but I find myself using Cubasis most of the time these days. I picked up StaffPad based on the creations of @McD, but haven’t really jumped in head first yet. It’s like a brick wall, a steep learning curve. Hope you’re having a great weekend.
Great lyrics, great collaboration , more please!
