The Tale of Two EPs (One in Gadget, One in NS2)

Okay, so my plan for this month was to release an album with 10-12 tracks, but those 12 tracks became split up between two different apps - Korg Gadget, and Nanostudio 2.

I just couldn't stick to one app, lol. I tend to feel "stuck in place" easily if I stick to one app for too long.

Anyways, what I've come to find with Nanostudio 2 is it tends to drain my iPhone 14 Pro Max's battery life pretty heavily (at least in my personal use case as I do tend to use a lot of third-party plugins like Taip, Beef, and now Doctor Vibe to process busses and individual sounds), whereas Gadget is a little easier on my battery life. Then again I tend to prefer the sound of NS2 to Gadget to be honest. Obsidian is the ultimate powerhouse synth, and Slate is a decent drum plugin.

As you will hear on both EPs, I created one Trip-Hop piece for each. I'm really starting to get into the genre with rediscovering The Crystal Method as well as getting into Thievery Corporation. Actually what started my interest in producing the genre was @richardyot collaborating with me last year June on our track "Nobody". Perfect Summertime listening to be honest.

I mastered both EPs in Cubasis 3 with Grand Finale 2 to polish the tracks. For the Gadget EP, I also used Doctor Vibe subtly before Grand Finale 2 to add a bit more character to the tracks.

Yes, indeed I sang on the final track of the NS2 EP as that is the extended version of the Sash! tribute song I released 3 or so weeks ago.

And yes, the second track on the NS2 EP is absolutely batshit insane. Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm utterly unimpressed with people who use Suno and Udio to generate music for their projects. So "What the Funhouse" is my response to AI generated music. 😂 No way could AI ever make something as stupid and cringe as that.

Anyways, if you want to skim through the EPs, that's fine. If you want to set aside time for a thorough listen through, that's also fine. There are more production notes in the descriptions of each EP as well as the track listings. However you want to listen, it's all good, but do please enjoy.

Thank you so much mate. :) Much appreciated.

  • They actually fit well together as an album. It doesn’t matter what app each song was made in :-)

  • Excellent work on both platforms!💯🤌🏾✨🪩

  • NS2 RULEZ!!!

Thanks mate, but personally I prefer to group tracks by app in my albums and EPs. Just a personal preference. ☺️

Yes! Gadget 3 too. Gadget has everything one needs to make tracks and is easy on battery life. NS2 tends to drain my battery quicker the more plugins I add in to shape my sound with.

That said, my next EP/Album is NS2. I prefer its sound to Gadget (at least currently lol, never know what my tastes will be in August).

  • I only listen to albums made in Tabletop

  • Very cool! I really like that effect on the toms around 0:32 that you use very tastefully in a few other places. I think I like the NS2 version best. I first got started in this stuff with Gadget but could never quite get used to the user interface. Fortunately, all of the synths are visible in Cubasis, so it was a good investment in the long run. When I get some more time I will come back and listen from start to finish. Well done. Happy 4th of July!

  • Congratulation a dozen song is a big accomplishment. I was browsing thru and top quality music. The Sach track was fun. 😎

Thank you so much mate. :) I loved making the Sash track. It was for Sascha's birthday this year, but I took out the birthday message during the piano portion when I extended the song. ;)

  • Also, I want to build an EP or Album with you lot. More infos are here. :)
