Which ‘Bud’ apps
I’ve not tried any of these apps and the discussion on the SnakeBud app seemed interesting. Seems so many apps by the dev though. Any favourites that you think are really useful apps? I don’t want to buy loads and have them sit in my app folders like hundreds of others.
I know it’s almost an impossible question, as you don’t know what I already own, so just say which ones you use often and why.
Comments
Musically PolyBud is my favorite. It could be the gateway drug. Take care - I own nearly all of them.
The other buds are also very fun and could be tuned together (with BrainBud).
I don’t own all of the buds, but I have several, and there are some I’ve barely used, while others have crept into my arsenal of more commonly used sequencers.
The one I've used the most is probably Snakebud (similar to the Make Noise René Eurorack sequencer). Great randomisation, has a CC out as well. There are bits of it I haven’t really explored yet - it’s got a lot of depth.
I love Bouncebud, because I love generative tools. And it looks pretty!
There are two that I’ve bought comparatively recently, but need to spend more time with, that I think will get a lot of use over time:
Textquencer is fascinating, one project I’ve used it on takes two brief texts which express (badly) how I was feeling on a very bad day, and turns it into a soothing generative piece (along with a Snakebud and a Brainbud). It’s worth it for that piece alone.
Shiftbud is based on the Turing Machine, which I’ve used a bit in MiRack (it’s also incorporated into MI Marbles, which I tend to use more), so it fits nicely into AUM if I’m not using MiRack.
SnakeBud and MuseBud are my favourites
I own just about every one of them. I guess if I had to pick only one as a favorite, I’d pick Bouncebud. I love the randomness and the generative unpredictability of it.
Thanks for all the comments so far![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I have all of them. Agreed on points so far. These are the ones I use most.
Bouncebud - generative randomness. Like Rozeta Particles with patterns.
PolyBud - like StepBud with multi-channel out. Step sequencer with probability etc.
SnakeBud - Similar to sequencers like Make Noise Rene in Eurorack or Snake MDD Max for Live patch for Ableton Live, but easier to use, plus patterns. Single channel sequencer. Get this first.
Binaryhthmic - multi-channel rhythmic sequencer - great for drums but could be used melodically.
ChordBud - chord sequencer with patterns.
PatternBud - use this to control all other buds for pattern chaining / song building. Must have.
FuncBud - use math to sequence. Knowing math not needed. Puts the 'fun' into functions.
MuseBud - semi-generative sequencer. Like Vermona MeloDICER Eurorack sequencer. Excellent.
Thanks. That summary is very helpful!
Personally and currently I use the chord and scale buds, the binarythmic too, but the one that gets used most of all, autofill, that one is my happy place.
Polybud and MuseBud are my two favourites
Snake, Step and Chord are the ones i go to often.
Step gets a sequence going fast. Arps or slower progressions. Has velocity, gate, rate, ratchet, probability, swing, pitch… and more things to easily adjust with sliders.
Its my get things started app. I might keep it in the project or swap it out down the road but its def fun . Its older tho so some of the newer buds might do more
There’s so many good ones if you enjoy creating/experimenting with Midi. I guess I’d ask was there anything in particular you were looking to do, in terms of… generative, semi-generative, midi arrangements, midi bass/lead, midi chords, midi CC, etc…
I have all but 1-2 of them and like all of them, I use a few, more then others, but I think that has a lot to do with my writing process.
Chordbud 2 - quick easy midi chord sequencer and chord pattern song arrangement
Rhythm Bud - Add rhythmic strum, or chord playing or basic arp playing to midi chords/notes
Autofills - auto drums fills, have fills play when you set, super dope, adds life to beat.
Cc Bud - Sequence Cc changes and have patterns for cc changes
Scale Bud 2 - play everything in scale, or filter all midi into a scale
Polybud - a polyphonic step sequencer, you keep adding note sequences/patterns, each at different times, etc… to build unique sequences.
Arp Bud 2 - easy arp app to send your midi through
Honestly i like them all… I still use the others Snake, Shift, Muse, and the rest, just not as much as the ones listed above. That probably says more about my creative leanings then it does the apps.
There’s lots of reasons I love @cem_olcay apps but at their core I like that combo of midi control/randomness or a blend of something in between. Each one is different, Youtube is definitely your friend when trying to pick between apps. Watch a vid on each, see what they do, and what you like. lol I just wrote a freaking soliloquy to say watch YouTube, lol. Just some good old fashioned self deprecating humor.
