Piano apps / Wurly

So I'm def not a real piano player but i love the sounds of the Yamaha reface and rhodes/times/wurly etc just like everyone else...
I have like 5 piano apps... house mark 1, retro piano, tines and some other romplers or whatever with these types of sounds…
I mostly create soundtracky ambient stuff and think id like to add some piano to my mix.. but honestly the apps i have just dont really sound good to me or at least don’t fit into my mixes (probably because of my lack of playing skills)

with this said is it hopeless for me to play the piano in a way that sounds good… or does the audiothing wurly maybe have something different to offer that can make up a bit for my lack of talent.. the YouTube videos sound awesome but… talent helps 🤣

I’m not tying to play jazz or be a legend, just slower reverby stuff with a sequence, should i just work with what i have or pull the trigger on the wurly??

It is quite a bit better than those you mentioned. That said, it won't magically upgrade your piano skills (as you seem to be aware lol). However, it will sound better overall for sure. It's also still on intro sale and quite a steal for that price...

It does seem to have a more detailed/realistic sound… than the ones i have and with MIDI/audio fx I’m sure i can pull it off! I think for 13$ its probably not a bad call! Thanks man and maybe it’ll drive me to finally learn more piano skills

Whirly seems to have a great FX stage that many similar apps (like you mentioned) do not. As such you start with a great keyboard placed in a room before you add anything. For the dreamy stuff the usual swampy chorus or modded reverb completes the illusion of a well recorded Wurlitzer. I do not regret buying yet another Whitley because of the fx treatment in the presets.

  • I like the Reface sounds too but never purchased one, so I sampled a real one.
