AudioShare won’t show my files in Dropbox

Hey, everyone. I’ve been using AudioShare for years to learn the guitar. I have a library of videos saved in my Dropbox that I download to my iPad with AudioShare to watch. A few days ago, AudioShare stopped showing me my directory tree in Dropbox. It still links properly but I can’t see my files. I checked with Dropbox and they said my account is fine. Can anyone help me?

  • I think Dropbox changed something a while back that broke AudioShare’s Dropbox integration. I’m working from memory, here, though, so I could be wrong.

Workaround would be to enable both AudioShare and Dropbox in the Files app and move stuff between them that way.

  • Ah, damn it. So download with files and move to audio share?

I'm able to access Dropbox directly from AudioShare on the latest iOS/iPadOS, so something else must be going on here.

However, you should be able to use "Pick File(s)" to get to the iOS file browser which will give you access to anything that the files app can see. To get to Dropbox you may need to:

    • Tap "Browse" at the bottom-right.
    • Tap "< Browse" tt the top-left until you get to the main file browser screen that shows all locations such as iCloud Drive and On My Device
    • If you don't see Dropbox there, then tap the ... icon at the top-right, then edit.
    • Switch on Dropbox and AudioShare.
    • Now you should be able to navigate to DropBox.

My guess though is Dropbox has somehow lost the authorization for the AudioShare app on your Device. When I tried the first time to go to directly to Dropbox from Audioshare on my newer phone, I had to go through a process of granting permission in Dropbox.

Have you opened the actual Dropbox app on this device yet? Sometimes it goes through a "housekeeping" process when I actually do that. Maybe that would clear things up.

Another thing to check in the Dropbox app is whether or not "Files.app" integration is enabled. I got there by going to Account, then the gear icon, then scrolling down to find that setting.

  • Another thing I did while hunting around was to log on to my Dropbox account from a web browser on a computer. I then went to the Account settings, Apps tab, and verified that AudioShare has access. If you don't see AudioShare after expanding to see the full list, that could indicate part of the problem. How to fix it in that case though, I don't know.

  • For your specific workflow you can just use the Dropbox app, it supports video.

Failing that then I would use the Files app. I gave up trying to get Audioshare working with Dropbox, the connection always breaks after a few days, no matter what I do.

  • Thanks for the replies. I tried all of this but it still won’t connect like it used to. I was able to use the iOS file app as a workaround. I use audio share to hold all my videos so I can slow them down with transcribe+. Interesting that wim was able to get it to work. I copied and saved the workaround instructions. Maybe this will be fixed in an update.
