So, who's tried the new Audiobus 2.1.6 update?

I am a little gun shy.

Comments

  • Seems broken to me. It launches the chosen app, only not within the Audiobus framework. There is no Audiobus toolbar within your chosen app, only an open app and Audiobus not communicating with one another. When you switch back into Audiobus via double tapping the home button on your IPad the app you've chosen to load into the first slot is still snoozing.

    Am I doing it wrong?

  • I take that back. I've done a reboot and now it is working. Sorry, my bad. xxx

    (iOS 7.1.2)

Was a bit of a mess on first few launches. Input block was caught in a refreshing app loop for a bit within Audiobus. It just kept saying "Refreshing" and refreshing itself. Apps would appear to launch and be active in Audiobus (not sleeping, full color) but they didn't do the trademark app launch loop and weren't even open. Also, got the weird input thing in the pic.

Edit: So I deleted, reinstalled, rebooted, and now it seems better. It is actually working pretty good with my core apps (loopy, sampletank, Effectrix). Seems I needed to get rid of that last version completely for it to fix itself.

And what is "Audiobus Pty, Ltd" did they sell or something?

Im guessing brand recognition? No one knew the original company names really, but everyone knew "Audiobus".

  • Why, for example, Filtratron has nice 3d AB icons with nice shadows, but when i do back to Animoog it has simple 3d no shadowed icons?
Also from Filtratron i ahve nice dotted part to hide the panel and in Animoog this part is with the Arrow?

  • another one (again Animoog and Filtratron)
From whatever app press Add Preset button within an AB control bar. AB interface is coming out with Save Preset window. Now press Cancel and you will see backed AB interface. Tap on screen doesnt work. To get rid of the Presets part you need to pres on the upper left corner ONLY.

See that's just it. And I realize I've been coming off as a negative Nancy lately (for which I do apologize) but I've literally got thousands of dollars tied up into gear that was purchased to be used with iOS.

With current iOS8 bugs, apps running different versions of the Audiobus SDK, Audiobus being inter-app audio based at its core, and the fact that every year we get to go through the iOS update pains, the closed system iOS/app approach that Apple has taken to save its platform also seems to be what is killing it. I'm wondering if it will all soon self destruct. :(

After more experimentation (ios7.1.2), IMHO this update is still not the solution. For example, Tonestack input to Loopy HD output still doesn't work (for me). The apps won't awaken from sleep. You tap them to launch, they go to the app but then they never go back to Audiobus. If you manually go back to Audiobus they are still sleeping. They never engage in Audiobus.

If you aren't having issues with your current setup, I wouldn't update. I'm going to look for an older Audiobus IPA in my busted laptop to see if I can downgrade a few versions.

  • @Ringleader

I just opened AB 2.1.6 on my 4s phone with 7.1.2 and was able to sucessfully launch both Tonestack and Loopy HD just fine, both apps opened fine and were not asleep and went back to AB.

I'm at work so I can't play anything at the moment but I'm not seeing the same behavior as you. Have you tried the hard restart? Which device are you using?
I have lots of AB apps and I haven't tried every app combination out there but I'm not seeing the same doom and gloom scenario as other folks. YMMV

Don't forget to restart your device after you updated apps. This can help wonder.I guess almost all of you already knows this, just in case there is this one person that didn't know that before... :)

Airplane mode FTW - Thanks Flo!!! I literally just tried it 6 times, 3 in airplane mode, and 3 not in airplane mode. Same issue every time in non-airplane mode - loopy doesn't go back to Audiobus as engaged. It hangs on the Loopy screen. Worked all 3 times in airplane mode with no hang. IPad Air, 32gb, wi-Fi only, 7.1.2.

And yes I am throwing around hard resets on this thing like nobody's business. But finally a solution that works!

But since we're going full disclosure here - apps in the input slot don't appear to support interfaces with more than 2 inputs.

I use the Steinberg UR-44 And when using with tonestack outside of AB, I can select any of the 6 mono inputs. When TS is in the input slot of AB, it only shows 2 inputs and even when I am plugged into 1 or 2, neither work.

Thought it might be a TS issue but Bias did the same thing. But I'm done venting here, I will continue to use my tube amp/pedalboard instead of TS until things settle down in iOS land. At least there is a partial workaround for now.

  • ^ it's true, they've been playing it pretty close to the chest, even though there seem to be issues with AB itself in addition to apps and OS...

Flo - with TS in input slot of AB, and loopy in output with no effect (just so we are on same page) you can select between all 4 inputs of the quartet and aren't getting just 2 to show up? Airplane mode or not, it is like clockwork for me. Two inputs only in AB (but neither working) and all 6 when used outside of AB.

Thanks for your input. That might actually work! I was confusing this issue with the mixing of hardware direct monitoring and virtual instrument software monitoring issue I was having in Loopy, too many to keep track of lately, but I'm on my way!
