Milt Jackson, John Lewis, Percy Heath and Connie Kay. Aka MJQ. Seminal shit for me. Here’s to jazz independence. Long may it wave!

  • With a little Gary Burton for good measure. I love this stuff. Vibes and piano are entirely different instruments and you articulate this like the real thing. Years ago we heard some Asian dudes at Jazz Showcase. I think they were local college students, but they really knocked us out. I never had the opportunity to see Milt or Gary, but those college guys were great. We’re on our way out for dinner now. I think they might have a Flamenco guitar player tonight. Have a great evening, bro.

  • Glad you enjoyed it @Paulieworld. Have a beautiful weekend.

  • when Im a grown up, I want to be @linearlineman. or at least have his skills for improv.

  • Keep on jiving sir. This sounds like a jubilant celebration.

  • @jo92346 lol, absolutely right. Just take the improv skill. Leave the bag of bones behind.
Thanks @MadeofWax i agree. An unusual, happy, track.

Jazz is so not my thing but I really appreciate the craftmanship. Top notch and this little tune actually made me smile!😎

  • Nice little blues tune, really captures the MJQ spirit. I was lucky to catch them live at the Hollywood Bowl back in the 80s. I think it was the annual Playboy jazz event. I remember Hef parading around in the audience seating to suck up the love.

  • Thank you @DMfan abd @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr. MJQ was unique. The pure sound of intelligent and feeling jazz.

  • You really got deep into the pocket at 1:26. I’m sure pointing that out won’t help you when you need it but still… it’s a magical moment. On second listen it’s that walking bass line that’s doing it for me. But that line is tight with the drummer and I live for that sound as a life long drummer when the bass player hears me or I’m riding on his bumper.

  • Awesome! I could listen to your playing all day. This one is really grooving. Sounds like several musicians. Loved the ending chord. Hope you had a great 4th!

  • Thank youse @McD yeah, @Dav I feel it, too. When the drums come in just right, when the horns align in an unexpected way and, as you say, the drive. I’m not gifted with groove, but sometimes I get there.

  • @McD is spot on, it all gels , toes start tapping, smiles start to form… loved it 🙏
