EQ with side chain?

Do we have any eq's on ios that have a side chain input? I feel like sidechainging within iOS hosts/apps seems to be kinda lacking.. maybe it's a limitation of the platform... or i could be wrong.

But for mixing i want to cut out some frequencies automagically on my synthpad when the bass comes in and then bring those frequencies back in between notes.

I had some decent eqs on my MacBook for this but I’m only using iOS these days as my MacBook has taken a turn for the worst 😑

  • If you use iPad, I'm pretty sure FabFilter Pro-Q 3 does it. 🤔 I could be wrong. Also I'm unaware of other EQs that can do this, so I'm interested too.

I absolutely use iPad! Sweet I’ll have to look at their manual and see!

  • toneboosters eq also does it if I'm not mistaken

  • Hmm this routing might not be possible in AUM like it is in Ableton… I’m trying to dig on YouTube for info

  • I like to simply use FAC Envolver to send envelope following CC values to any parameter I like in any app. The CC output from Envolver can be used to ride the gain of that particular frequency node as long as the app exposes it as an AU parameter.

You are right, this it the eq to do this!

I need to grab this app at some point ! Looks really useful!

I like this approach because it's generalized. It doesn't require special side chain support and can work with any parameter or combination of parameters, even over multiple apps.

The downside can be midi resolution. If an app doesn't have sufficient smoothing on its parameters, being limited to only 128 midi values can produce "steppyness".

One can sidechain the Fabfilter Pro-Q2/Q3 in AUM. For Pro-Q2 you can view the spectrum graph of the sidechain and in Pro-Q3 one can control the boost of the dynamic eq of the main signal via sidechaining

Channel 1 has the main signal with a Pro-Q3 insert, channel 2 is the sidechain signal going into ‚bus 2‘ of Pro-Q3. In the plugin itself the sidechain spectrum is shown in red, the single filternode is configured to be dynamic (ie controlled by the current volume of that filter band) and the blue icon shows that the sidechain input is used for control, raising the gain to about the 1/3 of the dynamics with the fat orange line (the full +30db curve dialed in with the gain know is shown in green)

I tested that Scaler EQ also supports sidechain control of the dynamic gain, Toneboosters EQ also seems to have this feature according to its manual (couldn‘t check)

Yah there’s like 3 apps with side chain lol so it isn’t reliable! I grabbed the envolver tho! I love midi stuff way too much

Thanks ki!!! I have this eq already so that’s perfect! Gonna put this to the test tonight
