Samplers

Hi folks

I’m looking for a sampler that can detect the pitch of individual slices and allow you to change the note/pitch of the slices.

Thanks

Lea

  • iOS app or hardware?

  • Sorry should have said iOS

detect, dont't think so. change pitch per slice, yes.

  • Pretty sure it can do what you want but def would watch a video.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. When you change the note/pitch of a sample in these apps does it automatically change the tempo of the slices?

    Thanks

Mixing the concepts of “slices” and “samples” can create a lot of confusion.

Segments seems like a good slicer that can also adjust pitch. The intent is for the user to then point MIDI events at slices that might take the Note value and apply it to the slice.
Slices are typically chopped up around transients or bursts of volume.

Audio Layer is a pure sample driven app that converts samples across the 12 note scale to make new instruments. Sure you could start from a sample with some tempo and every pitch adjustment would scale that tempo too.

Feel free to keep asking questions because there are many here with answers and experience to guide your journey into music nirvana.

  • Hey thanks again for getting back to me.ideally am looking for a sampler that chop audio into samples and show the notes of each slice and then let me change the pitch using semitones like Fl studio.

    Thanks

  • @LeaTurner - that screenshot isn't showing the pitch of the slice. It's only showing the keyboard note that will play that slice.

  • Hi Wim thanks for the reply I don’t own FL studio I am just trying to find a describe what I am looking for

OK. Sorry, I don't know of any samplers that detect the pitch of slices.

Koala gives you the ability to tune each slice and whether to do it with time stretching, pitch change, or a new one I haven't tried "cyclic time stretch".

  • Thanks maybe I will have to slice the export and then detect the pitch and re name the slices

When using Koala, I tune each pad (slice) by ear to the same note, then just play the pads chromatically.

  • LogicPro for iPad can definitely do this after the slices have been turned into a Drumkit.
I’m quite sure BM3 can do this as well.

No pitch detection in BM3, or am I missing something?

Missed that one, it's still early and I no longer have BM3 installed...

BM3 does pretty decent time-stretching and with a step-sequencer modulating the pitch of each '1/16th division' etc. things can get pretty interesting, or just play the sound in mono-legato with time-stretch enabled to pitch it on the fly without affecting the playback speed etc. etc.

  • Thanks everyone for taking the time to help with this
