Chord apps / single notes
Excuse my ignorance as I'm not trained in music talk, even tho l've been making music my whole life!
I normally set my synths into a scale and just play what sounds good.
But I'm wondering if there's any type of app that will play random chords like the chord roulette app, but will also toss in some extra ghost notes/fills as well.
Maybe i can play a chord but also toss in some single key notes as well in between. All the apps i found just play the chords all notes at the same time.
Maybe one that will separate the notes out and play single notes in the chords across a set amount of time… and not just big chords all keys at once!!
Maybe chord roulette does this but i haven’t been able to get that from it yet.
Comments
If you feed the chord MIDI notes into an arpeggiator, it will play the notes sequentially. Can be a bit robotic, tho'.
You might look at the OODA app also. I believe it does some sort of chord to note sequence conversion.
You could just put an arpeggiator (or several with different settings feeding into different synths) after chord roulette. Or have a look at piano motifs.
ChordJam allows you to play the individual notes of the chords and has a randomise function for this as well as a min / max value for the spread. In addition you can randomise the chords since the chord type it chooses the chord from is also randomisable.
Following the chord output with something like AU Hasard is one option. Adding Ranbo after that can spice up the humanization. The scale in AU Hasard should be set to match the key of the chord app.
Cality is another great one for running anything through for lots of variety. I haven't used it for a long time, but I assume it still works.
A few ways to generate chords and notes/melody
Step one plink a single key
or
use Scaler 2 and head out of scale (many different options) and use the performance option for broken chord/rhythmic/melodic playback
or
send one key into ChordBud or Chordjam and then into Riffer and switch between scales with a few notes locked and see what happens
any questions or clarifications lmk
Thank you fellas!!!
I am going to test all these suggestions out asap! Ended up being called into a late night of working 😑
@wim i forgot about mozaic! I have the app but completely forgot about it.. I’ll download those scripts and get that thing back into the mix!
To everyone that mentioned chordjam this particular function here does just that! When set to arp and you turn on the two arrow switch i selected random which plays the scales notes at random an then it switches to ALL and plays the chords… i never noticed this before! Its def one way to get results
I’ve been wanting OODA anyway so might as well try it!
Scaler 2 is being downloaded!
Wow scaler 2, even the free version goes really deep! The different performance options are excellent … i can absolutely make samples out of this and sound like i know how to play 😵
