Caustic 3 - Is This the End of Caustic 3 - Or is There Hope, Maybe There Is
I am a huge fan of Caustic, I love the app and do not want to see it go away.
However, the Website is now gone, its been pulled from the Google Play store and even of you can find some dodgy site to download the free desktop version its broken in Windows 11.
But there is a guy who is trying to build a similar DAW for mobile and possibly desktop.
You can subscribe to his YouTube Channel here, it’s called Saving Caustic.

I used to use caustic to load samples into my volca sample, which I’ve just dug out again. Is it busted then?
Did that too, but that was the “Caustic Editor for Volca Sample”. From the same dev, but different from the main Caustic 3 app. Sadly the C Editor for Volca Sample is gone as well. Compared to the other Volca Sample editors on the market, this one was the best both in terms of usability and functionality.
The Save Caustic guy spoke to the Caustic dev who indicated the possibility of a Caustic 4…
Does anyone know if the Save Caistic guy is gonna make the app auv3?
You’re saying Rej is considering coming back and coding Caustic 4, or the Save Caustic guy is going to code 4? I read Rej. Just confirming.
The save caustic guy said Rej told him it was a possibility
I saw the video too but if the Save Caustic guy started coding his own, he probably don’t have much faith that Rej will do future version or updates.
The other day you posted this renewed my faith Doug.
Glad to watch your video and to get to know that someone else is interested in coding updates
Caustic was my 1st mobile DAW (I know, I know not strictly a DAW) and I loved it deeply.
I only stopped using it because I managed to convince myself that I needed to use external synths and therefore needed midi out...
I would love to see a resurrected Caustic or, even better, Caustic 4. I do remember from the the old (only recently dead) Single Cell Software forum that Rej really didn't like the idea of inter-app connectivity/audio units though so even if Caustic 4 was a thing I might still be a walled garden.
I don’t know… I would love to see a Caustic 4 but it kind of sounds like speculation from the Save Caustic guy for the reason why Rej wouldn’t sell him the code. Not Rej telling him he might.
It was specifically mentioned in one of the other save caustic videos
Ah, okay, cool! I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
I've been using Sonic Syndicate / Synapse Audio Orion on Windows for a few years and it was one of my most productive environments. Caustic immediately reminded of it, with its pattern-per-generator concept and song mode just like in Orion. A cool and well done little app.
I wouldn't mind Caustic 4 being a walled garden as long as it supported sync options like LINK and master & slave MIDI clock and had a dedicated audio looper module, maybe a MIDI looper too.
Let’s just jump to caustic 5 I’m already burnt out on the unreleased caustic 4!!! 😁
Hello, I am on iPadOS 17.5.1 and Caustic works great. I have a 7e generation iPad. I am afraid of upgrade my iPad to IOS 18 because I'm not sure Caustic will work. Does someone have it working on iOS 18 or does someone know a way to know if caustic will work or not in this upgrade ?
For the moment I removed all automated updates for keep Caustic. Don't steel caustic from me, I'll keep it
I am writing songs I will probably use in live so there is no way I can't use Caustic anymore...
“saving Caustic “ on YouTube
This guy is updating Caustic
It seems to work fine on ios18 / iPad Pro M2.
Thank you ! So I will probably update. For « saving caustic » videos, I don’t know what this guy does but it looks awesome. I have to take time to watch it. And for linux and windows, I used linux a lot for years and I made music on it too but it was pretty unstable so I stopped doing music on it. And for windows, I just… can’t use windows. After windows XP all windows looks like… a big virus… for me. And since I have a mac since a couple of month, I will not use too computers on live (and the macos version of caustic don’t work on my mac, it says « developper have to update the app »)
That being said, I can use caustic on my mac but with the IOS version, I was surprised of that but I can use some of my ipad apps on mac. But it is related to ipad so I think if someday I upgrade the ipad to a version which doesn’t support Caustic then it will not work anymore on Mac ? Maybe I’m wrong. But I also like the fact having 2 devices (my ipad is small, it’s not like 2 computers) for live, for switch from a mac song in ableton live to an ipad one in caustic without blank
I used the free desktop Caustic when I was looking at getting into iPads and it still seems amazing what's included -- modular synthesizer! vocoder! -- plus the developer's detailed how-to videos made it a snap to learn. But its lack of linear tracks and effects limitations ultimately pushed me towards FL Studio Mobile once it became its own thing (and not a reskin of another program whose name escapes me). I don't really know what to do with a modular synthesizer anyway.
Indeed. Caustic was great (still is, but yes, as you said, limitations of effects are what eventually made me stop using it.
It used to be a reskin of Xewton Music Studio, and I'm glad FLSM became it's own thing with FLSM 3.0. Xewton Music Studio is still a classic for a reason, but yeah, not really relevant anymore.
Caustic's modular synth was easy for me to wrap my head around. For whatever reason, miRack eludes me, lol.
The funny thing is that MiniSynth from FLSM 2 was added to the desktop FL Studio as a stand-alone synth so FLSM2 projects could be imported, and it's still there to this day. Even still has the same skin as FLSM2.
Lol, that's wild to think about, lol. Yep, and MiniSynth is still in FLSM 4.xx, but it's been reskinned as the old skin is outdated.
