JWM - The Imp (Disco created in Koala, mastered in CB3, all on iPhone)

New song at last. Guess I got burnt out on NS2 and FLSM for the time being, so back to Koala I went for at least this track, lol. Mastered in Cubasis 3 with Doctor Vibe, Grand Finale 2, and Youlean's Loudness Meter on the effects chain. :) Cheers and enjoy. 🍻

  • Koala in the hands of a master is a powerful tool. Nice proof that it can hold up to multi-track, multi-instrument arrangements if you do the work to master it.

Thank you so much. Cheers mate. :) I swear, I thought I was creatively burnt out. Turns out I was simply burnt out on using the more traditional DAW apps like NS2, FLSM, and even Korg Gadget (despite Gadget being more of a baller groovebox with a timeline rather than a DAW).

I've done some of my most favourite work in Koala Sampler earlier this year, took a slightly more than 2 month hiatus from it, and now I'm back into it. 😂 Just a fantastic all-rounder app.

As per usual, I sampled all the one-shot melodic instruments using AUM to feed it directly into Koala. The drums are from Image-Line's "Real Drumkits" pack. Very dry samples, very old sample pack, but I love that type of sample pack when I need more flexibility in my mixdown and processing as I can spice things up to my liking rather than having the samples pre-processed. (Then again, I have packs full of pre-processed samples that come in handy in a pinch.)

You seem to get burned out periodically but it doesn’t last too long before you find
another way of approaching the task of making music you like again and again and again

I know, right? I will tackle that "help me build an EP" thing soon, not to worry. :) But I bounced back in a different way for the time being. Thank goodness for that.

  • One of my favorite track of yours! Great work!

Aw thank you so much mate. :) That means a lot to me.

  • Koala is my favorite iOS app, just because i have always worked on the 404 or MPC to make music.. be it ambient, hiphop, dubby chill beats.. whatever but wow never heard discoy vibes from the ol bear! Great production man!

Cheers mate. :) Thank you so much. Dubby Chill Beats sounds like something I'd be interested in doing next, not gonna lie. Then again, I do have that EP that I planned to make in NS2, but I may jolly well make it in Koala instead and just post the one Trance track I made in NS2 that I planned to put on the EP sometime next week. (Yes, I do like to group my EPs by app used to create them, lol.)

  • Agree with @ecou. Makes the ten best list. Often there are ways to work around the dry spells.

This is probably my favorite track of yours that I have heard. Has a disco feel to it that harks back to the late 70s or early 80s, and I think it stands up well against most of the well-known work from that area.

Really excellent work on this one!

  • Smoking’ track, Jim. For whatever reason, I’m hearing Peter Gabriel singing to this.

Coming from a master such as yourself, what an amazing compliment. And yes, switching creative environments usually does the trick, once my brain thinks of it, lol. 😂 Usually takes a week or less for my brain to figure that out.

Hella great compliment mate. Thank you. :) I do love making Disco instrumentals once in a while for
    sure.

Fuck yeah! I love Peter Gabriel's music. 😃

  • Can only agree with the above. Some of your recent music is just too modern (I can’t think of a better word) for me. Genres I don’t understand and don’t really resonated with me but are still always beautifully produced. This one is more my cup of tea !
Also I particularly enjoyed the lead ‘flute’ sound which reminded me of a mellotron. As I said on another thread a few minutes ago, I think it’s an age thing 🙏

All good mate. The flute is a Mellotron flute sound J sampled into Koala. :) So right on the money.
