ApeMatrix Save Crash, July 2024

To all ApeMatrix Users ( @Daveypoo , et al)

Are you still using it? If so, can you save any projects at all? I can’t—crashes every single time regardless of the circumstance (save, save as, small project, large project). I’ve been using it extensively as an instrument input to Loopy Pro for a few years now, and have invested a lot of time into setting up various detailed configurations. I contacted Alessandro and co. a month or so back and the prompt reply was that the app needs to be updated for the most recent iPadOS update. Nothing since, and no reply to recent inquiries. The last App Store update was in 2022.

This is a huge issue for me, as my forward progress is frozen in place.

It also brings into play the wisdom of relying so heavily on apps/tools from small developers. Alas, that is an issue for another day. (Having collapsable/groupable tracks in Loopy Pro may help address my specific problem….heading over to The Roadmap now.)

    Maybe it's a plugin you're always using in every setup? Possible that a recent update of that plugin is causing it. Best to remove plugins one by one to see if it helps etc

    This may not help, but you could look in Analytics Data (search in iPad Settings) for the crash log. It should be named for ApeMatrix. The actual error should be described in the first screen or two, and might give a clue. In any case, you could send it to the dev

    Has this always happened since you got the M4? It might be caused by some feature of the M4 processor, or the 1Tb drive, that ApeMatrix doesn't handle correctly.

    I use Apematrix almost every day and do not have any issues. iPap Pro M1.

    Can’t say for certain. Looking at the crash logs, I was getting crashes before, with my M1 Pro, but the frequency definitely increased with the new iPad.

    In case you contact the dev, please pass on the idea to add a master channel volume control with options to load auv3, just like the three individual masters. There is no global volume master channel with auv3 options in Apematrix. I asked him before, but it needs more attention. :#

    Update: the dev said he’d update ApeMatrix this month. Still don’t know if the crashes are an M4 thing, though. Will find out soon enough.

    Update: the app has been updated and no longer crashes on save. Kudos to the developer for taking on what appears to be a rare bug and patching it!
    I’m not sure what the source of this perplexing problem but the best I can surmise is, as mentioned earlier in this thread, it may be (was!) an M4 problem. The crashes coincided with the purchase of the M4 Pro, but honestly I know nothing.
    The dev expects to release the update soon.

    The update is up now, along with updates for multiple Apesoft apps.
