Ridgewalk by Aqeel Aadam Sound (Released)
https://apps.apple.com/app/ridgewalk/id6502917859
Ridgewalk is a standalone app and AUv3 plug-in. Ridgewalk lets you explore sound in unique ways not possible before. Meander between microscopic moments in a sample to create an infinite soundscape, or stretch or compress audio in realtime, all while recording and reacting to new input instantly.
Ridgewalk is both a looper and a granular engine. Output is generated by a set of independent microloopers that traverse a single buffer of audio. The audio buffer can be freely recorded to, overdubbed over, and reverted to a previous version, and the microloopers will transition smoothly and instantly. With control over the microloopers' size, behavior, and movement throughout the buffer over time, you're free to reimagine and reinterpret audio like never before - all in realtime.
Ridgewalk is designed as a modular tool for flexible usage. It is equally comfortable at the heart of your composition, collaborating with you as you perform, or as a finishing touch to provide a unique complementary atmosphere to deepen your mix. Ridgewalk is fully compatible with modulators such as Ableton CV or Bitwig LFOs to broaden horizons even further.
Ridgewalk has the following controls available:
Recording: Record via your choice of two unique techniques. Choose between automatic recording via input volume detection and a classic latching recording technique that can record infinitely. Buffers can be up to 60 seconds or 16 bars.
Overdubbing: Freely overdub on top of existing audio with two methods. Choose between a traditional feedback dub or a unique sidechain dub which compresses existing audio against new input. Playback will smoothly transition to new recordings instantly.
Layers: Each overdub creates a new layer, which you can then move between smoothly and revert to previous versions of audio.
Full recall: All recorded audio will be saved and reloaded when reopening a project.
Sample importing: Rather than record, Ridgewalk can import samples directly.
Volume controls: Independent volume trim controls for dry and wet volume.
Playback: Looper playback can be played and paused independently of input and recording. Playback will instantly reflect any changes to recorded audio.
Hold time: Looper playback can be automatically paused after a defined time since starting. This allows Ridgewalk to act like a strange reverb or delay.
Reverse: Playback can be reversed and audio can be recorded in reverse as well.
Looper size: Loopers can span from microscopic fragments of the buffer to the full size, and can be synchronized with your BPM.
Looper amount: Up to 7 microloopers are available, which move together in concert with one another.
Drift: Looper size and positioning can be randomly and independently desynchronized to add variations and unpredictability.
Blur: A one-stop-shop for increasing ambience: this controls looper crossfading as well as introduces reverb.
Repitch: Playback can be repitched from 2 octaves.
Random movement (Wander): Looper positioning can be set to randomly wander the sample over time via Brownian motion.
otion. voUr BPM.
Sequential movement: Looper position can move linearly through a sample over a time defined in seconds or synchronized to your BPM.
Manual looper positioning: Loopers can be positioned manually via tap or click, turning Ridgewalk into a performative instrument.
Instant playback: Ridgewalk can start playing back from recorded audio as soon as it is able, turning its granular looping algorithm into a live effect.
Transport syncing: Ridgewalk can be synced with your DAW's transport to automatically start/stop playback or recording.

Bought! Thanks!!
Demo I just posted for the desktop version:
finally an interesting looper/mangler:)
reminds me of the world of monome Norns scripts.
good stuff.
Oooooh
I think I like this more than SpaceFields. It’s less daunting that’s for sure, and less squishy space worm sounding.
Love it!
Hi all. This is great fun. Reminds me of the CBA Habit a bit, however, this is uniquely great!
Anybody encountering issues with multiple instances of AUv3 in AUM crashing? I’m on a iPad Pro 12.9” 5th Generation running iPadOS 17.5.1. If helpful, I experienced crashes of both AUv3 Ridgewalk instances in AUM without the AUM crashing and also a complete AUM crash.
Aqeel this is amazing! Your apps definitely are getting into lesser traversed, buffer manipulation iPadOS and iOS effects territory (definitely hot in the hardware pedal arena) which is wonderful to see.

Josh
Yes. @aqeelaadam more than one instance in AUM and the app crashes also bringing other apps down.
Yeah, I get crashes too...
Hey Josh and @Jumpercollins - thanks for letting me know and I'm sorry for the hassle. Day 1 jitters I suppose! I just fixed this issue and am uploading a new build to the App Store right now.
If there are any future issues, please don't hesitate to hit me here, via email ([email protected]), or on Instagram (@aqeelaadamsound). I'll do my best to fix em ASAP.
😂 agree
Looks interesting.
Can the “play head” be controlled via host automation?
Really interesting app, can’t wait for the update, though, as I’ve already had a crash.
As for Ridgewalk v SpaceFields, my take is they’re different enough to have and use both. I can see this being more of a sound source once you have something good going on, whereas I tend to use SpaceFields more as an effect/sonic expander, feeding bits into it to make it do its stuff more like a performance tool. I reserve the right to completely change my view after more time with Ridgewalk, though!
I love these kinds of tools!
There’s an option under Movement called External, maybe that’s what it’s for?
Hmmm…. Thx. I’m on the fence with this. Spacecraft was amazing, but ultimately lacked this simple feature. Perhaps this app will fill that gap.
Will there be a.. buy em both… bundle…i don’t have either yet but am thinking about it!
Just given it a whirl, and if I feed a MIDI LFO into the relevant parameter it’s definitely affecting the playback head, but it doesn’t seem to be a simple positioning like you’d get in iDensity, for example. The graphic doesn’t really make this clear, though.
If you mean playback being controlled generally - you can play/pause Ridgewalk via a param called "PLAY". If you want to control where the loopers are playing back from, yep, you can use the "External" Movement option and use the param "EXTERNAL MOTION" to control where loopers are positioned.
The external control params are at the end of the list FYI.
There will be though, though Apple is taking its sweet time with approving and processing it
This is good feedback! You're definitely using it correctly, though there's a couple things that might make the graphic kind of confusing:
Awesome! Thanks for the deal @aqeelaadam
I bought the desktop version, it sounds beautiful. I haven't gotten the iPad version yet, so apologies for a desktop comment.
This is a complex app, user error is probable.
With the desktop version no matter the other settings, I can't change the Buffer size. It's stuck on "synced size two bars".
Also I've had a crash take down Logic, the music was just playing, no tweaking going on, Pianoteq into Ridgewalk, simple settings- one loop, one layer.
Edit: oh no it's crashing a lot. I didn't try the demo version, I should have!
Oh wow, desktop version is crashy too? Ipad version is crashy, hopefully that gets fixed. This is indeed a beautiful sounding plugin. Not being able to change the buffer size is probably user error, as that can only be changed before recording begins. If you have the app set to auto recording, stop sending signal in to Ridgewalk. Once it stops recording new buffers, this Buffer Size setting will no longer be dimmed out and you'll be able to change it.
There are a few things in this app that can be headscratchers. It has info on the appstore description and gumroad page, but it could definitely use a proper manual and a few UI tweaks, perhaps, to help clarify certain things. I have a 25 minute spoken walkthrough on this on my Patreon btw, but not (yet?) anything up on YouTube.
Hey @Gavinski
Thank you for that information about the buffer size! I'll check it out but I'm sure you are right about that.
I'm excited about this plugin, I'm sure the bugs will get sorted, I'll be patient.
Yeah, I liked this at first play but there are really quite a lot of possibilities with this, the more I play and understand the more I love it, fantastic.
Hey @abf - I'm very sorry about this. I'm plowing my way through a bunch of bugs right now... Logic has proved to be by far the most unfriendly host for me as well, though it's no excuse. If you'd be willing to reach out via email ([email protected]) and provide a bit more info, it would go a very long way in helping me sort out these early issues. Furthermore, if you'd prefer a refund for now and would like to drop back to the demo version until you have more confidence, please let me know as well!
@aqeelaadam Multi Ridewalks use now fine in AUM thanks for the quick fix and congratulations on release of another fab app. Will leave feedback accordingly.
Completed the bundle.
I was skeptical at first, but this app is a very unique and welcome surprise!
So far... I haven't had any crashing at all, but I've only played with it on an iPad mini 5 in AUM so far. Will try the M2 iPad pro in other hosts, although I'm not a mobile Logic user.
Love it!
Thanks for creating it @aqeelaadam
Just completed the bundle too!
Many thanks @aqeelaadam !
I’ve had one crash so far, iPad Pro m1 latest iOS.
Not sure what happened… will continue to explore and experiment!
I’m gonna love this!
