MIT+ Surgeon Quits and Tells The Truth

Comments

  • I actually saw this all the way through (in a couple sessions). Thanks for the share.

Dude realized there are limits to his skills as surgeon and also that
current medicine knowledge isn't infinite - it doesn't understand everything
    and can't solve everything.

    So he quit his job.

It's not midlife crisis. He just literally got burned out in job, like many other people
(including me and my wife few years ago), that's all.

He also suggests healthy diet and sports helps people with spine injury where operation
can't help, or (in his words) it heals everything. (here i am starting to rolling my eyes a bit)

Yes, of course eating healthy and doing some sport is GREAT for your body, there is
absolutely no doubt about that. But it definitely doesn't heal everything.

Also he thinks brain-to-computer interface is not possible, meanwhile first Neuralink quadriplegic patient is controlling mouse cursor with his thoughts.

Ok. I am happy for him he is happy now.

  • @dendy @Blipsford_Baubie i’ve been thinking about this guy and have become a bit skeptical. He never mentions where he went to med school. And, he mentions his wife early on, and her support.
But at the end she is out of the picture when he talks about how much he neglected his dog and needs to spend a lot of time with him. What happened to the wife who was probably more neglected?

Finally, also thought his comment on prosthetics to come not informed.

He got 5 million+ views. Is he for real? Not sure. My partner recently had knee replacement surgery. It seems to have worked.

I kept waiting for him to mention his wife towards the end too. Dog people 🙄. Sorry Michael. I also thought it was weird, as a surgeon, how he oversimplified his patient’s recoveries and lifestyles stats with terms like, Some, and, Most.

The enjoyment I got from this video was the meandering, unscripted, self-reflective nature of it. It wasn’t a confirmation bias type of thing for me. It would suck though if I felt happy for an AI generated thing, lol, @LinearLineman

actually i was pretty nervous entire time while watching it because of that damn moskitos 😂 God, why dude didn’t use some repellent 🤣

Yes, of course. Surgeons are in reality one of most successfull doctors - they are really helping people a LOT with all kinds of troubles and they are usually very effective (like they just solve the problem, remove suffering)

As i said, all this is just about dude got classic job burnout and this is his way to deal with it .. not bad, but there are also other ways how to deal with it (like change employer, this perfectly helped to me and my wife)

  • @dendy I still like my acupuncture idea. He’d be great at it if he’s the real thing.

Acupuncture helped me too with spine ache. This thing is really weird but it definitely works.

  • riddle time (Joke actually from a medical trade journal - no hate)

What's the difference between God and a surgeon?

    God doesn't think he's a surgeon.

  • I went to Chinese medical school
The medicine is real and it consists of more than acupuncture - herbology, moxibustion, acupressure , and more is involved in multi modal approaches that treat the disease and not the symptoms . In emergencies you can’t beat western medicine esp with surgery BUT for long term treatment of diseases I think Chinese medicine actually provides cures rather than symptomatic relief of mitigating one disaster for another
