4 stereo inputs - how?
Up until now I’ve been quite happy with the iPad and Arturia Minifuse 2 but now I need more stereo inputs. I’ve never considered mixers and after a quick search I am really confused, so I hope you can give some advice.
Having AUM as the brain and a max of 4 stereo inputs, what would be the best (easy too) solution, mixer and/or audio interface? This one https://www.modularaudiotools.com would be amazing I think, but it is not yet ready.
Thanks in advance.

Did not know things had change so drastically.. with my M-Audio ProjectMix abandoned in the Garage..
Only 2 stereo inputs as far as I can see.
Depends a bit on the workflow you want, and the budget you have. An audio interface with 8 line inputs and iPad support is the least hands-on option I.e. MOTU UltraLite mk5. There are interface/mixer hybrids such as the Zoom LiveTrak series. Or combine a mixer and an interface.
Lots of class compliant (i.e. works with IOS) interfaces offer multiple inputs these days. Mixer/interface hybrids are common as well.
What do you mean by best? Cost? Quality? Particular features?
As mentioned you “can” add a mixer before a stereo interface, but multiple staging will degrade signal quality.
The MOTU UltraLite mk5, as @MadGav mentioned, is a good choice if you want to replace your current interface with a more powerful one. It's not a cheap device, and if you're only using it to bring in 4 stereo sources (i.e. not using the outputs, optical, mic preamps, MIDI etc. etc.) then you're not using a lot of its features. Could be something to grow into, though.
Do you plan to mix within AUM? If so, do you get a tangible benefit from using a mixer to bring in your audio? If you don't need a mixer for audio, but want to have hardware fader controls, you could try something like a Korg Nanocontrol.

This is what i use.
Perfect friends with AUM and mobile set up.
Pricey but the best purchase ive made in this area.
You can get a slight deal on reverb.
Its the size of a credit card. Long battery life, super portable. All the inputs 😎
Size of a credit card… and will also max out that credit card 😂
Haha that’s why they did it 🤣
But hey, its my fav piece of hardware since its also a USB c audio interface For iPad
Given my limited space at present the TX-6 might suit me quite well… but I don’t have the budget and if I did that’s half a Committee (Martin, trumpet).
It's like you have to choose: either your credit card or the TX-6
Seriously, I had considered it but it is just too expensive.
I was going to have my iPad as the brain so the Motu audio interface mentioned above would have been a good choice but I have been researching further and I can well go for a "brainless" set up with the Bastl Bestie as a final mixer.
I’m paying over time for mine with affirm 😌 its not as bad that way.
Its worth it for me cuz i travel constantly for work and make jams n the parks n such
Nice! I haven't seen the Bestie before.
I wonder why the TC Electronics Blender isn't available anymore.
Same audio connectivity as the TX-6 but for about 1/10th of the price, and it optionally runs on AA batteries too.
Yes, I understand. But besides the price, how do you manage to get your fingers around those tiny knobs? I don't have big hands but for what I see in the videos I get the impression you have to use pincets (or mind control?).
Hmm, I don't know but the Bestie is way more beautiful, I think
Does the Bestie act as a multichannel audio interface for the iPad?
The blender is absolutely missing some features that the tx-6 has and it is no longer supported. I was considering it but when it comes to hardware i always try to get the Thing that’s not going to make me want up upgrade in a few years and end up costing me the same or more with trying different hardware.
I don’t buy a lot ton of hardware so I’m really careful when i do.
The knobs are small but its a more of a mix it and forget it for me. The multi out from tx-6 to AUM allows me to adding EQ and other mixing effects without having to add a lot of extra busses. And without twisting a lot of physical encoders. The sliders are absolutely wonderful buttery on it. And the mute/solo buttons are my most used features on any mixer anyway.
Thats the only downside imo. Battery life is amazing. USB c directly into my iPad or sp404. It is a audio interface/mixer in one so that’s how i justify the price a lil! Before this i was using a giant 6 channel mixer and focusrite interface taking up a lot of space on my desk and impossible to travel with. I like to work outside as much as in the studio . If you are not really mobile then portability isn’t important. But its the ultimate in portability and sound imo
No. No audio interface. Just a small quirky analog mixer.
