Loopy pro Loading AU fx presets

edited July 2024 in Loopy Pro

Just a few questions. Can you load AU FX presets using a loopy control surface button in the select actions -> select AU preset ? It doesn’t show any of the saved presets for audio unit fx even tho I can open the audio unit and select them manually. This isn’t an issue w AU inputs just AU effects?

Also how/where do AU save their presets? If I delete those in a different app will that be unavailable within loopy when I load a project to play live?

Thanks

SOLVED: I’m an idiot and kept going to audio unit presets instead of effect presets 🤦‍♂️

Short version: if an AU doesn’t expose its presets to the host, you will have to add them to Loopy Pro’s preset list.

I can see the presets in the menu and create new ones but I can’t select them using a button -> select au preset -> target

    Nothing shows up

I can see the presets but I can’t select them using a button

Please post screenshots that show what you are doing and a screenshot that shows the drop-down of presets visible to Loopy.

Whether deleting presets in one hosts deletes them in others depends on whether the AU has implemented the OS’ preset saving…most don’t.

  • To clarify, you can use the select preset command for instruments and effects and midi AU as long as they are visible to the host (I.e. if they show up in Loopy’s drop-down preset list)

  • Screenshots visible. Have ToneStack pro, AU3FX:space and toneboosters eq and voice pitch. Eq has factory presets visible to loopy but nothing shows up when trying to make a target for a control surface button

  • This works fine with audio unit inputs just not fx

    Can you show the whole sequence of screenshots that lead to that, here is an example ;

omg 🤦‍♂️ I’ve been going to audio unit preset instead of effect preset. lol. Thank you @espiegel123 I’m a dummy sometimes.

  • No problem. I’ve done that myself.

  • @espiegel123 do you know if there’s a way to automate putting an audio unit into idle mode? I have several synths open with UI toggle buttons to Unmute/mute but wondering if there’s a way to save some CPU.

    Thanks again

Muting a synth's channel idles it.

  • Ah I was muting the auv3 input instead of post fader. Opposite to mute a mic/guitar channel with auv3 in the fx. Choose input for that to make it idle. Awesome!

You can also turn effects on and off via actions to save cpu

@espiegel123 if I may, one more question. I can use “send midi message” and adjust parameters in Drambo as an AU input. How do I do the same thing with Drambo as a channel effect? Drambo as an effect instance doesn’t seem to show up in targets

you need to load the mfx version of drambo to receive midi. MFX auv3 are effects that can receive midi. Plain fx auv3 don't have midi.

  • There’sa loopy pro wiki!!! Dang nice

How would I control au fx parameters in ToneStack like a pitch pedal with a widget? ToneStack has midi learn but no parameter list so it’s a selectable effect parameter target but I’m not sure how to connect the pedal to the loopy widget

Tonestack has no AU fx parameters. And the AU doesn’t have a midi port.. so the host can’t send midi to it! I have never figured out a reliable way to get MIDI from inside Loopy Pro (or any host) to TomeStack Pro. I have tried bouncing it out and back in but that hasn't worked for me.

You might want to contact Yonac to see what he advises….and to request that Tonestack Pro AUv3 gets a midi port that the host can send to...and then it would be easy to direct MIDI CC and PC to it.

Maybe someone else has figured it out.

  • I sent them a message. Hopefully they’ll add it

It is possible to send MIDI from Loopy Pro into Tonestack Pro. Someone showed me what I was doing wrong. Aim the MIDI at Loopy Pro's Virtual MIDI Out and ToneStack Pro will see it. There is a slight caveat that TSP reserves some CC (like CC0) for their canonical function and won't let you learn it.

If you need help getting it working, let me know. I'll try to whip up a quick wiki page when I have a chance.

  • Thank you! Got it working w virtual MIDI but yonac also said they’d look into it as well 👍
