Personal stats for apps purchase and usage

This may be of some interest to developers or just general interest. These are my stats for app purchase and use.

iOS music making time usage: 75% split between Making tracks in a DAW usually Logic iPad / Making ideas song sections in a Host App usually Nodes or AUM / Making experimental sound in a Host usually AUM. 25% split between: Jamming on hardware with iPad backing / designing sounds / designing audio samples or loops.

Have purchased roughly 800 apps over a roughly 10 year period.
Have roughly 550 of those 800 music making apps currently on my iPad.

Out of the music making apps on my iPad, roughly 45% are FX apps, nearly all AUv3. Roughly 18% are mostly synth based sound making apps, mostly all AUv3. Roughly 10% are sample based sound making apps, mostly AUv3. Roughly 9% are midi manipulation apps, mostly AUv3. Roughly 8% are Drum, percussion or beat making apps, about 60/40 AUv3/non AUv3. Roughly 7% are Audio manipulation or sampling apps, mostly AUv3. That leaves roughly 3% DAW or Host apps.

As for my use of apps and those categories of apps, it roughly equates to the same percentages as per those above, excepting I only use 3 to 4 of my DAW / Host apps often out of the 17 or so available and I use very little of my sample based sound making apps often.

Thoughts on future buying:
I am likely to buy FX apps, as long as they try to do something different or better than others. Logic FX apps probably have killed off my desire for any basic FX apps, but if an FX app offers something unique, I find them hard to resist.

While I have more than enough Synth based sound making apps, I find these hard to resist if they are done well. I tend not to buy them straight away, but wait to see how reliable they are.

I find sample based sound making apps to take up too much space and quite frankly they rarely excite me. I will probably not buy many ever again.

Midi apps, although I use some of them regularly, I find some disappointing or just don’t use them for some reason or other.

Drum and percussion apps are just great entertainment in my opinion, yet I don’t find them anywhere as exciting as some of the older releases used to be - they possibly seem stuck in a rut….possibly.

I love many of the older and new audio manipulation apps. Many of the touch-centric non AUv3 ones are just classics. I wished devs would go in this direction but in AUv3 builds.

Just too many Host apps. Some I use, even though they are just short of the features I really desire in them. I just don’t get excited by Host apps anymore, as by their nature, they need lots of constant tlc and updates - I’m not sure they can be cost effective for many developers to be honest.

Just my opinions, feel free to post your own.
