Joining tracks to make an EP
I want to join a few tracks together to make an EP to post as one YouTube video with images later on.
I have the basics of the tracks. Is this the best way to join them to get the levels as close as possible and to add a few connection sounds?
- Make all the tracks into separate audio stems.
- Make a new track pasting all the audio stems from the original tracks in order on separate tracks so I can adjust levels if needed. The levels on the original tracks are close, so shouldn’t need a lot of adjusting.
- Add connection sounds
- Use Logic mastering for the whole track.
Is that about it, or am I missing anything. Or is there a better method?

Have you thought about Transit? That might do it for you.

I do have transit. Only ever used it on single sounds before.
How would I use it to blend from one track to another (sorry for being thick today lol)? Or do you mean to using it on single sou ds going between the stems of each track?
Sorry if I'm not making much sense as my heads aching pretty bad today
This is what I usually do in Cubasis 3 to form an EP. However, Logic's Mastering Assistant is best used on individual tracks first and then can plot out the order of the mastered tracks as it does EQing and such all in one instance, and ideally you'd want EQ per track.
In Cubasis, I do my own EQing per track first and then feed every track into Grand Finale 2, Cubasis' Brickwall with its threahold set to -1dB to catch any extra peaks that sneak through, and Youlean's Loudness Meter to ensure each track is roughly -14LuFS.
I have already used Logic mastering on the individual tracks, so I'm on the right track then (pardon the pun). Thanks for the advice.
Of course mate.
Do people really enjoy doing all this stuff? I love making sounds and throwing a few notes together (other people call it playing lol), but all this mixing and mastering malarkey is as much fun as my head pains lol
I enjoy it about as much as a wisdom tooth extraction, except at least during a tooth extraction I can crack lame jokes to make my dentist roll his eyes. 😂
I was meaning like a DJ type thing - the same sort of way they do it. Actually maybe DJDJ would be a better option - you know loop part of it (either live or pre-made), turn up the effects (the effects take over) the track is changed, the effects get turned down …. and the new track emerges. Have a look at the various DJ mixing videos - it’s how they go from one track to another.
OK, thanks. I'm only doing it if I can wear a funny cap backwards and DJ like out of Shaun of the Dead! Lol
It's part of the creative process leading to the end product, with loads of choices to be made, including the choice not to make the choices. Different people enjoy different aspects. I'm always surprised when people want to farm out their melodies and harmonies and rhythms, but they must enjoy other parts of the process more than I do. Meanwhile I farm out most patchmaking, which I know a lot of folks really enjoy.
