    He was very influential to me. After I bought my first guitar, I listened to "John Mayall - Live in Europe" and taught myself how to play a few riffs from "The Train". It was then that I realized I might be able to do this. At 90, he had a good run. He was never a global, pop superstar, but every musician knew who he was. If you played blues, you knew John Mayall.

  • He had some good bands. He was famous among LA musicians for having a world-class porno collection at his house in Laurel Canyon. I moved to LA several years after he lost everything in a fire, and guys were still telling stories about his collection.

  • My favorite album was the one with Peter Green on guitar.

    More sad that his house burned with all his fabulous stuff! That was only one of his collections, but obviously the one that generated the most gossip.
