Understanding Tonebuster's Barricade
I have had TB Barricade and Equalizer for over a year now and I stilll don't quite understand the presets and settings for Barricade. I usually use it to make my mixes try to sound more professional and wider. I tried a few presets and I don't see it sounding so great. I am looking for a punchier and more dynamic mix. By the screen shot , what do you think ?

It is a bit complicated and it can be difficult to get good results instantly.
Have you looked into Caelum Audio’s “Smoov” (transparent peak detection compressor) or their “Schlap” (aggressive RMS compressor)? These are far easier to use.
I regularly use Smoov on guitars to tame harsh noises.
Smoov and schlap bundle 4.99 for both - no brainer for me. Thank you for mentioning them
@Antos3345 Caelum Audio’s compressors are indeed good but I don’t think they answer what you are looking for in your OP. As you know, Barricade can be a limiter, clipper, compressor so it’s a very versatile app. It’s not a widener though so I would use it to get the punch you are looking for, and then add a separate app for widening.
The Barricade preset you are using has the Tape saturation applied as the Input Modeler so this might soften your track too much. Try the other Input Modeler types. Maybe none? Maybe Bass Sat? Maybe HF Clipping? It depends on your track.
Have a think about which elements you want to enhance. Make the whole track louder? Bring the mids out? Feel free to post a snippet of the track. Barricade is very versatile and will do part of the job I expect but you may need to add another app or two to get the full finish you are looking for.
Thanks. I will try the above tips
Cheers
You may want to read some articles about how to use limiters and what the controls mean. Barricade is pretty straightforward and offers a lot of possibilities. Keep in mind that with limiters and compressors, you are almost always going to need to spend time adjusting the input level and/or thresholds.
If you haven't read its manual that might be worthwhile, too.
Thanks all. I am more confused by the presets , but now I think I now understand are more input models and they can't be changed. I guess like the BYOD models.
What confuses you about the presets?
I'm confused basically because I don't really see what is being done under the hood. I see some sound change characteristics in the limiter and compression, but I don't see everything else, so I assume that's the input modeler, unless I'm not seeing another page somewhere. In the above screenshot on my main post I chose the -3db analog console preset. I don't see anywhere the changes, but Gus from a reply had mentioned these are input modelers. If so, this explains it .
