And now something pretty: Ouroboros
“ One can experience an unconditional affirmation of life only when one has accepted death, not as contrary to life, but as an aspect of life. Life in its becoming is always shedding death, and on the point of death…” ( Joseph Campbell on the symbolic meaning of Ouroboros.)
In the Ancient Egyptian Enigmatic Book of the Netherworld the symbol of the serpent swallowing its tail represented the beginning and end of time, and the formless disorder which surrounds the orderly world. In Norse culture it was Jörmungandr, the world-serpent. When, as it inevitably must, it released its’ tail from its mouth, Ragnarök, the end (and the beginning) of all things would ensue. In the 15th century alchemical text the Chrysopoeia of Cleopatra, it represents the ‘all in one’, a balance of opposites. In the engravings in Michael Ranft’s 1734 study of vampires, De masticatione mortuorum in tumulis (On the Chewing of the Dead in their Tombs) the meaning is more… ambiguous. For Jung, it represented the embrace of the shadow self. And what, pray, does it represent for you?
A semi-generative piece made of a handful of notes played freehand into some Atoms, duped, moved, and set to different tempi and probabilities, all triggering one instance of King of FM. Very simple. An endless, yet ever changing loop, like… well.
…Don’t @ me. Some times things just come out… pretty, I guess?

Nice! While I was listening to it I was wondering if I can play it on mandolin easily - it sounds like some good mandolin semi-improvisation.
A relaxing listen for a Saturday morning!
I’d be very interested in hearing you do that! If you fancy the challenge I could send you the midi… I have idly thought in the past of adding mandolin (which I love the sound of) to the list of instruments I own/can’t play. (Several guitars, bass, uke, recorder, piano - I’m a multi non-instrumentalist. That is, when I’m not thinking futile thoughts of banjos.)
This is actually a King of FM preset called harp, fwiw, touch of Alteza reverb, nothing else but the Atoms.
Send me the MIDI!!!! I want to assign parts to either StaffPad or AUv3 instruments.
The best way to sent it in by compressing the MIDI file to a zip and using a DM to attache the zip file.
Thinking about the snake eating it’s tail I was wondering how we could think of that in human terms and the best idea I have is:
“Bend over and kiss your ass goodbye.”
Yes, if I have the MIDI it will be easier to transcribe then I can just read it and play it.
Never forget the Benzene Ring!
@LinearLineman : indeed, August Kekulé‘s dream!
Exactly!
Lovely… you old softy 👌
@GeoTony : aaaw! Blushing now…
Later than promised (life intervening) but if anyone feels like messing with them, here are the midis I made that drive this:
