Logic Pro iPad: Record Automation without Overwrite?
Hi guys. So I'm recording knob movements as automation in logic from my hardware synth (Syntakt). I want to be able to record different knob movements over several recording takes without the previous automation recording getting overwritten which is what's happening right now.
For example: I record filter cutoff movement, press stop. Then I want to record amp release changes, the moment I hit record to tweak another knob it removes any cutoff automation that was there. I've tried every recording mode and it happens with all of them.
What I don't get is the midi clip shows that I've recorded 3 different automations but only the last knob tweak I made actually gets played back/applied.

Make sure to set overlap midi-recordings to merge in the settings.
That did the trick! Thank you very much for your help. You've saved me hours of headache 😄
Would you know if midi modulators would have an additive effect on top of the automation? I intend to use the MIDI LFO to add extra LFO to syntakt. And if I turn "merge" off in settings, is there a way to collapse all those automation recording takes into one clip?
Also, after recording the automation I've run into a bit of an issue. The knob parameters I automated on Syntakt are "sticky", if I turn the knob slowly the value snaps back to some arbitrary value, and I can only get it to change if I turn the knob quick. But then it still misbehaves in terms of the rate the parameter can be changed. This happens even if I set automation mode to "off" in the midi clip. I linked to a video showing this, if anyone knows how to fix this I'd really appreciate it.
There should be no need to even enable automation recording when recording Midi CC's from an external device.
As I don't own a Syntakt but I'd check the manual and see if there's some settings on the device to adjust their behavior (In case a sequence is running it could eventually reset parameters etc.).
As for midi LFO's you can record the midi LFO's output to a track (long tap on a Midi Plug-in and select record from here).
You could also try the stock Modulator midi plug-in and set it to send any CC that the device responds to.
Play around with it, it's really not that complicated
Thanks for the tips . I'll try this out next time I fire it up.
