Open song with 2beat kick
I know this is probably silly question… but how in GarageBand or loopy pro, do I open song with two kick drum beats… I need the first one to hit on the down beat of the forth beat before the second one his on the one… it seems that in Daw or loopy pro for example , the loop is starting on the one of the first bar… that being the case I need the first kick to actually start on the previous forth beat if that makes any sense… I’m trying to build my own tracks for life in a northern town by dream academy and I need that big double kick… I’m a guitar player singer and not a drummer for sure😊

Is there a reason you don't want to just start the song with a measure that's empty up until the fourth beat?
In loopy pro, turn on intro recording. Anything you play during the recording count-in will be captured and play before the first beat. It is for recording pick-ups/anacrusis
Thankyou wim and espiegel… 1)as far as wims suggestion, the song doesn’t actually start with the two kick kettle drum… it’s at the beginning of the chorus and usually i just do sections(intro, verse ,chorus) and I just start the chorus verse loop on the one… and in this case I need the chorus loop to start on the previous 4…..I am probably not thinking correctly? …..2) espiegel 123, that sounds like what I need in this case… if I were to use the 8x8 template idea , my second row of loops would be my “verse “ section so to speak and could start recording at that point on the 4 of the count in… Thankyou both will give it a try and post results
Hey espiegel 123…. I tried it but it didn’t work … I turned on switch and then went to metronome and turned on count in… when I recorded loop it was still missing the first one ( on the 4 beat). I’m thinking I need to turn something else on or off… I’ve thought about the other suggestion from wim and thought maybe I should just make the loop 5 bars instead of 4 and just leave the first three beats empty…. Or instead of looping use it like a one shot that just ends and then goes to the next section which will be the verse… sure I’m over thing this but Thankyou for the help
I see, the pickup is in the middle of the song, not really at the beginning. Your idea of having a transition loop heading into the chorus is good if recording Intro doesn't work. It should though. I'm sure @espiegel123 will help you out there.
Are you using the sequencer timeline? If you are, it could simplify your other idea a lot.
Count-in refers to the record count-in setting. Do you know how when the clock is running and you queue a clip to record there is a “wiper” like animation. The period of time when that is present is the count-in relevant to intros,
Check out this video and if you have questions after watching, let me know
Thankyou both for responding…. I will try this tomorrow… I think I see where I made mistake… I turned on the count in on the metronome…. And I see in the video he was just using the regular count in when you press a loop after the first beat… that will be very helpful to know in the future also…. And nim I have not tried to use the sequencer yet…. I’m technologically illiterate😊… and it actually becomes overwhelming to have to learn how every app I purchase operates from scratch because I don’t understand the principles of it… I am 61 years old and the amount of time I have spent trying to understand how things work just to be able to use most apps(even if it is just an effect app like au3v push ) is not doable… I mean I don’t want to learn all the principles of compression to be able to use a compressor if you know what I mean…. Not that I wouldn’t if I were 30… but I am not…I am a mediocre guitar player and singer.. in years past I have performed a bit and gave it up and am recently coming back to it… I love the amazing abilities of computer based music but this far it has been very frustrating and I have spent way to much time figuring out and way to little time making music I think… Giant rabbit holes in many cases so far…. I don’t have a lot of money to invest(already have invested way to much in apps only to find out that they aren’t either useful or understandable without a massive amount of time… I got Bleas voices for example thinking that would be good to use for backing harmony and then I open it up and completely don’t comprehend it… I go to YouTube’s and it still ends up being somekind of learning curve when all I really wanted to do was hit a stomp pedal that brings in a harmony when I want on a 3rd or 5th or whatever….didn’t mean to go on forever here just venting I guess… I really believe loopy pro is amazing and has a lot of potential, but im learning that maybe it’s not correct for me in the long run as I’m not really interested in doing the live looping of a set of chords that repeat over and over… it sounds really good for about three songs but from my experience performing people get bored with it after a few songs…. Atleast I do myself… what I really want to do is kind of like the 8x8 template as I understand it… where it’s like tracks but if I want to go back and take another 4or 8 bars of lead I can go back to that section or jump to another section at any point… I really like that potential in loopy as opposed to just making backing tracks and being stuck… it might be best for me to make my tracks in GarageBand and then just play them through loopy but I would prefer to avoid more steps in the process… I need to be able to sit down with guitar and mic and make music and not spend all my time figuring out…again thanks for the help and I’m going to keep trying…
You should look into the Live Loops mode in GarageBand. It sounds like it could be what you’re looking for.

@schmeckman : loopy pro can play loops or full-length backing tracks or combinations of the two. If learning new workflows isn’t something you like, maybe it isn’t a good fit.
The discussion started with recording pick-up notes. I don’t know of any apps besides Loopy Pro that specifically address that. Typica DAW workflow is to start with the measure at whose end the pickup ends.
Thankyou…espiegel 123…haven’t given up… just get frustrated… was looking through YouTube’s today and came across this video is this you??…although it’s way over my head at the moment it looks very interesting for doing what I was talking about… and yes WIM I have messed with GB liveloops and may revisit it if I can’t figure a way to use loopy… Thankyou both
That is my video. Actions can also be used for the timeline and may be easier to get one’s head around than what I am showing in that video .
Did you do another more basic video on how you did that ? Looks very good
On the Loopy Discord, I posted a template with a precursor of what is shown in the video.

It is somewhat complex. The upcoming 2.0 version has some features that make this sort of thing less cumbersome to put together.
There is also a thread with a template showing how to use actions to navigate sequences created on the timeline.
Thankyou I’ll check it out and see if I can pick it up
