Connecting an old lightning iPad to controllers...

edited July 30 in Hardware

I have an iPad Pro 9'7" from around 2016. I also have much older iPad 3 which has different port (not lightning) and for that one I had CCK. But for this one, forgot or didn't have a chance to get.

Anyway, I was recently thinking of getting NanoKontrol2 (not Studio, but just NK2! so it's usb only) or something like that, and I'm thinking between options. Should I try searching for lightning to usb adaptor by Apple, and if yes then which one? I've seen both MD821ZM/A and MK0W2ZM/A around, not sure which one is better for my old device (also im not sure if those are genuine or not in stores around me). Both for usb-a, right?

Second option is getting iRig Midi 2 instead. That would be a bit pricier, but also gives not only usb-midi, but also standard midi connection. However I see it was released between iPad Pro was a thing so I'm not sure how unproblematic it works or not - I tried searching for discussions and the one I found was about trouble with Yamaha Motif and Songbook+ app. So, anyone uses such with iPad Pro 1st/2nd gen?

  • For the Lightning-USB adapter, I'd get the newer Apple one, with the Lightning power socket alongside the USB port. That lets you connect a Lightning charger to power the iPad while using it.

  • Theres widi uhost.

    Will make controller bluetooth.

Buy the OTG type cables from either cme or another OTG cable.

    A usb plug.

It would make this akai controller bluetooth to whatever phone/tablet

Cable from controller, to widi uhost. A cable from widi uhost, to mains plug.

  • MK0W2ZM/A Is worth the extra cost to give you the option of powering / charging the device at the same time. You’re limited to just battery power, and also can’t attach certain devices that need more power than the iPad will supply without a powered hub.

It's worth getting because then you can still attach any USB audio / midi device.

It's worth checking Apple direct online. They have competitive prices, peace of mind you're not getting a knockoff, and at least here in the US, free shipping.
