My inner critic hates my music, so here’s a video inspired by Linear Lineman
It seems like nothing I make musically lately is good enough for my inner critic. I have several pieces in various states of completion but I just don’t feel satisfied with them. I’m sure many, if not all of you have been there.
Fortunately I have other creative outlets. But even then I have a difficult time getting anything past that voice in my mind that says, “It’s not good enough “.
I try to remember the concept of Wabi-Sabi and find the beauty in the imperfections but even then it’s not easy.
Since he has posted about the concept of Wabi-Sabi in the past and has also been an inspiration to me and others I made this video with @LinearLineman in mind.
Thanks for sharing your music and wisdom @LinearLineman
Congratulations again on 1000 tracks on SoundCloud.
I used Udio to make a Jazz track and Vidu to make this video.

What’s wrong with that? Nothing.
IMHO you can defeat your inner critic. But not by trying to eliminate it. What I’ve been doing over the years is just moving it to the edge of my consciousness and lowering the volume. It’s still there, but I get better and better segregation by practicing not paying attention to it. You may be playing an all or nothing game when it’s more of a slow victory by attrition. Keep at it. You'll get results, I think.
Fun video. All those oldsters. Amazing tech.
More great wisdom.
I also need to keep in mind that comparison is the thief of joy. So many great musicians here. I won't ever be as talented or prolific, but that's ok. It isn't a competition.
Thanks for always being supportive.
Compare and despair, bro. As to getting satisfaction…
The monk says to the hot dog guy, “make me one with everything” and hands him a twenty.
He gets the hot dog but asks… “Where’s my change?”
“Change comes from within” replied the wise vendor.
Gotta watch out for those hot dog vendors 🤣. You never know which ones might be part time philosophers. 😳
I think you once said something about leaving the listener wanting more. I want more! This brings back memories of stories Mom told me about how her and Dad would go out dancing at the Aragon Ballroom in the 40s. It had a “floating” dance floor and the ceiling looked like stars. It was always packed shoulder to shoulder. They called it “The Push”. I wish I could have seen it in its glory days. It’s still around, but not like the old days. I was there in the late 70s and saw Elephants Memory and Quicksilver Messenger Service. Me and my buddy got held up and robbed that night. Fortunately, we had enough gas to get home!
Sounds like a wild night. Glad you made it home!
I appreciate your feedback. I used up all but 8 seconds worth of my free trial at Vidu to make this video . Given the feedback I’ve received on Reddit I think I’ll eventually sign up unless I manage to get a spot as a “Vidu Artist”.
It’s actually not a bad deal, about twice what a Logic Pro sub is per month. Given how flighty my creative muse is though, I’m always hesitant about long term commitments.
Hope you and yours are doing well.
Yes comparison in any walk of life seems to me a fairly fruitless activity. Just do your best, believe in yourself and you won’t go far wrong.
Beautiful gentle video 🙏
Yeah, screw that inner critic guy. Didn’t I hear he lost his job anyway in some corporate takeover a while back? Sure I saw him begging for change outside Starbucks once. Anyhoo: great vid!
Thank you @GeoTony and thank you @Svetlovska
Funny thing.
After posting this video on Reddit I was contacted by someone interested in my videos and I'm supposed to have a Zoom meeting on Monday to talk about potential freelance work.
I've never done freelance work before so I'm not sure what might happen but I have my fingers crossed. If it wasn't for people like you who have been so supportive I don't think I would have gotten the opportunity.
Even if it doesn't work out, it's still a good feeling.
I’m a simple man. I see @LinearLineman , I click.
Well done.
lol, bro, that might be too much clicking. Protect those fingers!
Haha, gotta work out those finger muscles. Hope you’re doing well. Haven’t been as active over the past few years but all is well.
Life has had its ups and downs @seonnthaproducer. When you’re as old as I am they start happening simultaneously more and more. Glad you’re still showing up.
Thanks, you as well. Let’s definitely meet up when I’m in town again.
I still gotta top the last time I visited @Gravitas but we’ll see.
Just let me know when you’re in Savannah @seonnthaproducer.
I consider that a good policy. Thank you very much!
No way, you were there? I was in Atlanta a little over a year ago to meet @hennythabizness . Next time...
Yep. I'm here, bro. Looks like I’ll be here a while if I’m lucky.
