I just looked at the external instrument plug-in and checks the docs. It seems weird that it only lists a single Bank value and limits it to 126.
Conceptually MSB is the top 7-bits of the bank number and LSB is the lower 7-bits to handle values from zero to 16,383. But how companies actually use them vary. (And sometimes the numbers in the docs or on the synth are off-by-one from the values actually sent over MIDI.)
Presumably Logic is only going to send either MSB or LSB, and they don't seem to document which. You might need to use some sort of MIDI monitoring app and experiment to find out. And then hope you can access the programs you want using only the one they send.
It'd also be good to use the feedback form on Apple's site to request that the plug-in be updated to handle both MSB & LSB.
Thanks for the response 👍, will provide that feedback - and will also look into Mozaic to see if I can figure how to script it be able to send program changes.
I would also just try using the bank change and program changes things as is.
My Roland MC-303 has both Bank Number and corresponding MSB/LSB values in the preset-list in the manual and Logic's bank change works like charm. On the Yamaha's I just have to subtract one from the bank number.
Thanks, I have been trying that but can’t seem to get any results I can put any pattern to… I have tried using both the LSB and MSB as the bank numbers… 🤷♂️
I do have an MC-101 that I will try it on to see if that helps me to understand what is going on…
Another option is to use the automation editor to add the MSB (Midi CC#0 value) and LSB(Midi CC#32 value) + PC message to a midi-region.
Thanks Samu - I’ll give that a try.
@Samu Thanks heaps! That works perfectly… it would be even better if Logic for iPad had a list editor…
Yepp, I’ve already sent feedback to Apple on that long time ago
Doesn’t hurt if more users do that too…

I’ll add it to the long list of suggestions I’ve already fed back to Apple - regarding the ludicrous things they have left out of the iPad version of their “Pro” music software… 🙄
+1
I’ve already lost count of how many feedback-posts I’ve made
