Are original OP-1’s still in production?

edited August 4 in Hardware

Hi,

I’ve noticed ‘new’ original OP-1’s are still being sold (Amazon, eBay etc.), at pretty low prices, but they’re not available via the Teenage Engineering website itself, or the big music hardware suppliers.

Anyone know if these are genuine TE devices, or fake, old stock etc.?

Temptingly low prices, but seems a bit weird TE aren’t selling them direct, though maybe they’re concentrating on selling Fields…

The OP-1 homepage implies that the field replaced OG OP-1

  • They were selling them on the TE site for awhile after the OP-1F came out, but recently it was no longer available. I think they were just getting rid of back stock, and I’m sure other places are doing the same.

If you’re considering the OP-1, I HIGHLY recommend you keep saving for the op-1F if you can. It really is a much better sounding box now after the new update.

Yes, that sounds most likely. Probably best avoided as getting repairs would be an issue.

Would love a Field, but they are £1k more than the original OP-1 offers, so out of my price bracket unfortunately.

  • Fair enough, it’s still a fun little box regardless of if you have the field version or not.

Yes, it’s just the potential issue of getting repairs that’s off-putting, if they’ve stopped production. I think for a similar price the Digitakt 2 is a better option, so I’m looking into that.

  • Check out the OP-Z as well, very powerful little box for the price. I love my OP-1F, but if I could only keep one it would be the OP-Z.

Ah interesting, they’re quite a reasonable price too. I think my pennies might go towards a Digitakt 2 if they go on sale during Black Friday. Bit concerned about the reports of screen issues on their forum, but hopefully they’ve sorted that out with newer batches.

  • No issues with my DT2 screen fwiw.
