Toneboosters MBC & Barricade

Yes another masterish thread.
Lots of us have famously used Barkfilter with Barricade and lots of other combinations to polish our final mixes for years. For me LP4I Mastering Assistant has opened my eyes to how good my junk can sound 100% IPad and it’s got me looking for a similar sound without using LP4I. I’m finding a similar clean but punchy in the right places sound with MBC/Barricade and I’m just curious how you all are feeling about this stuff lately?

As far as I go, I've gravitated towards mastering in Cubasis 3 with Grand Finale 2 and Youlean's Loudness Meter, especially since most of my production is done on iPhone anyways. Although I'm thinking of switching to HarmonicDog's "Multitrack DAW" for mastering purposes as it can host effect AUv3s like GF2 and Youlean's Loudness Meter perfectly fine. Simpler for me to navigate in that environment as well on my iPhone's screen.

EDIT: That said, Toneboosters' plugins are just top notch.

  • @jwmmakerofmusic ya I’ve reloaded Multitrack DAW too recently trying to simplify down. I do like GF2, but I find myself getting my finals a little too tinny sounding. Logic showed me a clean but more balanced sound. I realized different apps allow me to go too much treble. MBC makes it harder for me to over equalize stuff, which helps me stay out of trouble.

You mean helps you stay out of treble? 😂 (I know, bad pun, booo. Lol.)

Anyways, I just usually use a preset in GF2, adjust the level of the track the audio is on until Youlean says it's around -14LuFS, and there you go. :)

So your mixing/mastering chain is just MBC or Barricade? I use GF2 just like @jwmmakerofmusic because I wanted an all in one mastering solution, being able to focus on the mixing in my DAW. Maybe it’s time to try something else and if the TB stuff can get similar results as the praised mastering solution in LP, I might give it a shot!

Why? You just said Logic Pro for iPad was great. Why not continue to use the best tools to get the best end results?

Sometimes a change is nice, lol. I usually change creative environments once every 2-3 months (give or take).

IAA apps. Variety. iPhone DAW portability. VocalTuneStudio. Halon Sonic.
