How do you all go about arranging a track in AUM
Hey I wonder what way other people work when I comes to arranging tracks in AUM . The way I liked to work was I would set loads of stuff up I would work on a 8 bar loop and then peel everything back then I would hit screen grab and do like a live jam sometimes I could get 15/20 mins of “jam”time from a 8bar loop and with a few fxs mapped to a midi controller. But since changing over to using a Mpc with my set up I’ve needed to change the way I work . So to be able to record the iPad along side some Hardware synths and can’t just use screen grab as it’s only the iPads audio it’s capable of recording I have to feed it all through to my Mpc then to laptop running ableton and a audio interface . But basically the same work flow . I’d like to know if other people work the same way like setting up a jam and playing along and every time you play with it , it can be different. Or do most people plan it all out like you would in a daw ? . I have Cubases and koala for iPad and find that AUM and LK are better than the more traditional daws for the way I like to work . Just wonder what other people’s thoughts are ?

The only type of jams I used to do in AUM were Ambient jams, and most of them turned out not so great (unless you're a hardcore Experimental Music nerd like I used to be, rofl). The king of AUM jams was @iOSTRAKON .

He could do anything in AUM just on a touch screen (as far as I can recollect). And man were his pieces wild. I miss him.
Anyways, my workflow is more traditional DAW-based for the most part. Nanostudio 2 and FLSM are my go-tos. I don't consider Koala a DAW-like environment necessarily but rather a sampler on steroids that can rival many hardware samplers. @elf_audio really did an amazing job with that and continues to do so.
I use Cubasis 3 mostly to record and process vocals for projects, and to master EPs and Albums I release. However it's a great DAW all on its own. I wonder, have you pondered trying Logic Pro? I know it's subscription (oh no, "controversy", lol), but it has this AI Mastering Assistant that can polish tracks like nobody's business in case you're not too familiar with how to master your own tracks.
(I'm iPhone-based, so my iPad Mini 6 is used for artwork rather than music production. 256gb is not enough storage space to fit all the romplers I use, lol.)
That sounds cool. I was watching this artist Araabmuzik using an mpc, and it looked so fun. I like to host Loopy Pro in AUM, utilizing the easy midi routing in AUM and recording audio into Loopy Pro. Then I can arrange the audio clips on a timeline (without maxing out processing power) if I choose. Sometimes I do a combination of that and controlling different parts in AUM with Mlfo to provide some variation. But I am by no means a “power user”. I look forward to learning more about how other people are using AUM.
AUM and midi generators routed to instruments
MIDI recorded to Atom2, Helium, LK, Drambo, or MIDI Tape Recorder
Audio recorded to Gauss, Neon or MultiTrackRecorder (4pockets), or Loopy
Use a controller like a Launchpad to trigger prerecorded loops of audio or midi by bypassing the audio or midi loop
Good for flow composing. Not too great for much more than AB song structure - the part triggering management gets a little much.
EG nodes, LK and moving bits to Xequencer can help.
I suppose moving everything to Loopy or Drambo could solve that issue of arranging as well but I have a flow in AUM
Lately I've been enjoying recording stems in AUM with minimal sequencing, mostly live tweaking + tons of modulation. Drop the stems in desktop Logic Pro, tweak, add reverb sends, tweak automation, mix, AI master, export file.
I love AUM but its not easy for me to build a track using it.
Using ATOM2 or similar MIDI app to create parts, or recording the audio into something like loopy pro/koala or similar audio app, is the way i have been able to write and finish songs.
Some drum apps like patterning 3 will let you set up and arrange parts that can automatically advance just by pressing play in aum.
Line up all that and then record the audio
Cool thanks for everyone’s input /feedback
Yeah I’ve tried logic and it’s just like GarageBand in my opinion lol also it seemed a new learning curve I was not ready to understand same goes for drambo I read so much cool stuff about it after buying it along with about another £500 of apps I’ll definitely use it some time .i know it’s powerful, I also didn’t know about logics ai mastering ? Sounds cool however the way I like to work doesn’t involve to much if any mastering . I like to just record live sets and cut out the best bits yeah koala isn’t a daw but close to it when it comes to arranging layout
I’ve had some success using things like Rozeta suite they can chain together patterns and mutate patterns so I can get a good few minutes of evolving beats and riffs if I need them it’s just automating the fades and stuff in AUM seems a bum
I like to sometimes export the stems into Cubases to do long gain fades and stuff but that’s rare for me to even like something enough to be assed doing that lol
Hey brother! AUM is one of my favorite apps EVER!!
Because I am terrible at making videos all I do are screen recordings so if you want to you could check my YouTube videos for a few ideas using LK, the mixer volumes and the app nodes for arranging faux tracks. https://youtube.com/@ovidiusmagnus?si=2PNj3cBIDKLG6e7C
I am a super noob but hopefully you can see something useful there.
Happy Sunday!!!
