App solution to re-route midi to various hardware/software synths

I've got one main midi keyboard, and I'd like to be able to use it to reroute midi to other synths on different channels. For instance:

Main synth (controller) - outputting on midi channel 1 and receiving input on midi channel 2
hardware synth 2 - receiving on midi channel 3
hardware synth 3 - receiving on midi channel 4
ios synth 4 - receiving on midi channel 5
ios synth 5 - receiving on midi channel 6

Ideally I'd like an iPad app where I just push a button to reroute midi channel 1 data to the channel of whichever synth I select. My understanding is that Drambo might be able to be set up to do this. Are there other easy apps out there? Seems like this should be a no-brainer but my google searches haven't found anything yet. There's a neat little hardware midi router called SiparioX but it's quite expensive and can't be found in the US.

Aum has a very pleasant midi matrix and nice per channel midi filtering.
To switch midi channels I use my mosaic script ChannelSwitcher.

  • I use AudioBus for this

If you wanna capture midi also.

    May as well use Drambo.

I think you just open Drambo

Press the plus button per track, to open a midi output module.

Choose what midi output it is ( the green writing )

    Choose channel number.

    and thats it.

    For entire setup.

Provided your hardware is set corresponding midi channels.

You dont need a midi output module for soft synths in drambo.

You probably dont need to even switch the input from the keyboard to a midi channel from omni.

Its just a few midi modules added to a few tracks, from opening Drambo

and you might not even need midi output modules ( I cant test because cant find background audio in AUM ) First module per track has all midi settings, though.

    ( I think )

  • Havent sequenced external gear but if your hardware is set to the midi channels.

This is probably all you need.

  • Just tried it and I like it so much that I'll start using it in my own rig!
I've added a few buttons to have a "favorite presets" function for each of your synths that sends a MIDI Program Change.
    How to use:

    • You simply hit a track pad to play that synth.
    • Buttons allow you to pick and select your favorite presets on each synth.
    • Swipe up on each button to set its value to a number between 0 and 127, according to the program you want to choose, and make sure the button is set to "Momentary".
    • To add more favorite preset buttons, add them by hitting "+" and also add a mixer knob set to max. and include the button's signal.
    • Make sure each track's MIDI setting matches your rig and save the project.

There's another option using track presets on pads but that won't let you sequence multiple tracks in Drambo so I didn't continue at this point:

Xequence's "MIDI Thru" feature automatically routes all enabled MIDI input ports to the instrument (port / channel / app) on the selected arranger track, modifying the channel as appropriate. You also get an amazing sequencer and software keyboard on top 👍 no scripts or shenanigans required.

It may be overkill for your use case though and you still need a separate AUv3 host if you plan to use AUv3 synths. AUM works well for this.

Thanks for doing this. IT seems like exactly what I need - I'd like to be able to play sequences on different synths in Drambo and then be able to add keyboard leads on top of that.
