Subito
Subito, according to Wikipedia, signifies sudden changes in dynamics in a piece of music I.e. suddenly very loud or very quiet.
This duet between Piano Motifs playing Ravenscroft and me playing GeoTenorSax explores this idea.
The Randomise Velocity setting in PM is at maximum and the exposed Melody & Accomp Vel(ocity) parameters are being controlled by Sample and Hold Rozeta LFOs to make each run-through unique.
Comments
Love this! Can you describe the setup a bit more?
Thanks Paul ( @Paulieworld ) 👍 the Piano Motifs settings were
Bars 20
Accomp Style Serendipity
Randomise Velocity On +/- 64
Melody 16th Notes On
Accomp Min Bass Interval On
Accomp Last Bar Chord
Accomp Open Voicing On
Rolled Chord On
The setup for changing the PM velocities is here… you can see the velocity settings by long pressing on ‘Octave Shift …’ hope that makes sense 😊
Very interesting! Yes, makes sense. I need to dive deeper into PM. I had not considered using other apps to control the parameters. Great out-of-the box thinking! Great GeoShredding, as usual. In a previous post you said something about doing 30-40 takes before getting the keeper. Is that how you did this one? I usually record a dozen or more then trim and rearrange the pieces into a final pattern. The downside is that you can sometimes hear where they overlap. A bit of reverb, delay, and audio editing can usually fix that. This sounds absolutely seamless, leading me to think one take. Great work!
This was lovely Tony, so atmospheric 👏 👏
Hi @Paulieworld , yes my approach is basically to bang my musical head against a brick wall till I get it right (if you see what I mean).
I never edit (or even produce) midi and rarely trim anything. I just try and play things the whole way through in one take. Some take longer than others so the Reel in E that I did a few days ago took me a while to get the tunes sorted out, then get the playing right, then I started trying to record the whole thing but it’s amazing how just pressing the record button makes me panic and screw things up. So I went through 25+ attempts before I got it right. I just look at it as practice so it’s all good !
This track on the other hand just had a couple of warm up recordings and the third go was what you hear.
Many thanks @Gavinski for listening and commenting 🙏
Sounds great. I love your geoshredding. I think this kind arrangement would also sound great using a koto sound with a flute solo. The velocity changes would make the koto plucking sound pretty neat probably..
This was effing gorgeous!!
Truly amazing. The amount of effort and dedication certainly pays off. Another great piece.
Beautiful piece @GeoTony!
I could have listened to another 10 minutes of this as you know I love a seductive saxophone.
Are you still using that Rozetta Scaler trick to constrain the scales for GS?
🙏 @Dav , @Drrabbitfoot , @MadeofWax and @Edward_Alexander .
No Rozeta Scaling on this one Edward. I tend to use that on more abstract / ambient / generative stuff and especially in conjunction with A2M. Very rarely with GS leads.
This sounds really intriguing if it's what I'm imagining. I would love to use GS more, but the arthritis in my fingers is getting worse by the day. Thumbjam works well, but I would prefer the two dimensional interface of GS. Can you describe the setup? I use Cubasis exclusively, but often route things in with AUM. I'm not trying to pinch your secrets, but I'm looking for some new directions. I've been stagnating lately and have been thinking about hanging it up for a while. I have been playing around with the Rozeta Suite tools over the last couple days and, besides a few clicks and beeps, I found a few things that sound promising. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Gotcha. Just some fantastic finger skills here then! 😊
@GeoTony Tonnnnyyyyyy whatya doin !???
Awesome track
@GeoTony: Hi @Paulieworld , yes my approach is basically to bang my musical head against a brick wall till I get it right (if you see what I mean).
Tony, I hope you’re banging it really hard, then suddenly stop, then bang it really soft. 🤣
You got a great foundation out of PM. And a great shredding opportunity. Well done. Your lines are getting better as you shred on. Good stuff.
Only another 2,748 versions to go and @azul3D_Apps will be able to offer the @LinearLineman emulation IAP 😊
I am listening on a rainy Saturday morning with a cup of tea. The music really fit the mood . Very lovely playing.
Sounds beautiful, echo Edward, needs to be longer...great stuff. Not sure why but it reminded me of the original bladerunnner soundtrack for mood and atmosphere.
@GeoTony, great work on Subito!
Listened to some of @LinearLineman's work and have to say it would take 2,749 versions (and plenty more generates) to emulate just half of the notes being played (infinite monkey theorem) ! 😄 The nuances in composition, expressiveness, interpretation, and performance, though... that's a whole other level.
Wow! Super interesting!
Thanks for listening @azul3D_Apps. I don’t use PM but I’ve listened to a lot of tracks where your creation is a source of inspiration for many here and used to very good effect. And here Tony uses it in a most novel way.
@GeoTony, what a beautiful atmosphere Tony, you are a true master in evoking these atmospheres, loved the sax! frenq
Masterpiece! 🤩 GeoTenorSax in your hands becomes alive. Thank you for sharing!
Loved this. Noodling with the Swam Sax tonight but can't get it to do this! Awesome work.
Absolutely gorgeous. Your geoshredding skills are amazing and the minimalistic piano/sax setup is great. Very nice job!
