i hope im not the only one, who would love this app to be able to do “pitch bend per note” for creating microtonal scales
besides being a great feature inside the box, it would be awesome to use it with my other hardware gear that way
@cem_olcay is this a good additional functionality? Have the scale going up different for the scale coming down - like some real world scales. Hope you’re well mate.
The new version is live, fixes this issue.
Thank you!
Jade Starrs review and tricks for Note to Be
I’m bunging random stabs from KB1 through it now, to good effect. Does for me what Rozeta Scaler did, but seems like it could be more flexible. Don’t understand it enough yet to tell.
Rozeta Scaler was good for the time, but the tiny number of scales available hobbles it. Note To Be, and Harmonicer by Kai Aras are better choices for note quantisation, because they allow you do do custom scales, and Note To Be gives you even the ability to select different notes for different octaves, if you want it. Yet the Transpose slider in Scaler was and is useful - could something like that be added Cem?
Just posted first fruits with it over on Creations. I like it!
I know I'm always the bearer of problem news, but after the update today it's not holding the presets again. The new ones I worked on yesterday are now blank again.
(Which is sad because I had carefully made note arrangements that sounded really good and I'll have to go back and, hopefully, rebuild them all again.) 😫
Pitch bend per note would be super dope. Please add.
Also want that Mozaic script if sim 1 can find it.
recently scored snakebud which gets doper each day, i like to run it along with auto fills and bouncey Cem’s which reminds me….When using Bouncey, and I rotate my iPhone it narrows out the play area and all my balls go brrrrbgrgggrsagbbbbbagggabbugghn.666 until, I slap it back to proper position.
Love the chaos, but require auto rotate on account of autism
Maybe the app needs a snapshot capability
That was my fault sorry! I fixed it and uploading a new version. It will be live soon.
The new version is live.
Got some great news. I've managed to add Scala support to the app. It can load the scala (.scl) files and apply the pitch bend values per note 😭
There's a public scala database containing +5000 microtonal scales. I'm planning to add it on the next update. Then I'll work on the editor that you can create your own on the app.
The Wilsonic by Marcus Hobbs is another great microtonal scale generator app. Not sure if we can export scales from Wilsonic, but it would be great if we can import scales from Wilsonic to NTB.
My only concern about the microtonal scales is that pitch bends applied on the whole MIDI channel. That would mess up the polyphony. I need to send each note to their own MIDI channel, like MPE does. But that's not good for the multiple synth control with the MIDI channel masks.
I guess I need to add a microtonal mode switch on the settings menu and enable the "round robin" mode for microtonal polyphony. I'm open to suggestions.
Fixed a weird issue I was having with 2 instances of Note to Be not accepting midi from Polybud in an AUM session when I reopened it - all fine now!
This is so fucking cool! Thanks for going crazy with this. I appreciate it a lot!
I own Wilsonic on iOS since its out. Audiokit Synth One has Wilson's scales included
And there is TuneUp, an open source solution to allow apps to share tunings
https://audiokitpro.com/tuneup/
There is also a desktop beta of Wilsonic
https://wilsonic.co
And this one can do polyphonic pitchbend retuning
Currently beta testing the microtonality. In this version, I included the scala library with +5000 microtonal scales. You can select, search, favorite and live audience them in the settings menu. I'll work on the custom microtonal scale (pitchbend per note) editor later.
Let me know if you'd like to beta test the microtonality.
@cem_olcay do you plan to add a pitch bend range adjustment in the app settings (12, 24, 48 semitones) ? Not all (analog hardware) synths interpret pitch bend to the same range. And some are not responding to the corresponding RPN message and have no manual adjustment.
Wouldn't per note pitch-bend require an MPE capable synth to work properly?
I mean pitch-bend by design pitches all currently playing notes?
As far as I've understood proper micro-tuning changes the tuning table on the synth using SysEX when the device actually supports it?
Personally I have zero interest in this...
Yes, I'm working on a pitch range selector for remapping the values to the selected range.
Yes, pitch bend applies the bend to the all playing notes in the MIDI channel. My solution is adding a round-robin mode that would send every note to their own channel and apply pitch bend to the notes individually like MPE does.
Currently it's an optional setting that you can toggle on the settings menu
yes, and I personally would love this feature. Entonal Studio does it already https://apps.apple.com/de/app/entonal-studio/id1540587912?l=en-GB
Stupid question, I am sure - can this be used in a DAW, rather than AUM? Bought it yesterday and had a super quick session loading it up in Cubasis but it didn’t seem to be working. I’m sure it’s user error but thought I should check. If anyone’s using this account n Cubasis Id love to know your setup/settings.
Just had a bit more of a play and it looks like it’s working out of the box in NanoStudio but no go in Cubasis. I have both midi options (Rec to Track and Midi Through) switched on in Cubasis. @cem_olcay any ideas?
Isn’t ScaleBud 2 a note quantizer as well?
Anyone else using this in Cubasis?
As I should have suspected - user error! I always turn on Rec to Track for midi effects in Cubasis by default however this seems to disable Not to Be.
As you were.
The new version is live! Just go to the settings menu and pick a mictrotonal scale from the library and have lots of fun! Can’t wait to hear what you come up with
