Beautiful Inky - In Memory of Inky Da CaT - Lady App-titude

edited August 16 in Creations

As some of you may know, the online synth community lost a beautiful soul this week, Lisa Beynon, known online as Inky Da CaT. She was a major contributor and supporter in the Hardware Jams (HWJ) Youtube/Facebook groups.

Here is my memorial tribute to my dear friend Inky:

A beautiful tribute to a truly remarkable musician. Well done Babz. I'm also sorry for your loss. Hope you'll be okay.

Thanks so much, jwm! I've been in a bit of a state of shock all week. It was so unexpected. She was so active and inspiring to so many people. But pouring into the creative processes helps. This one was more a hurried process than usual, but just had to keep pushing ahead.

I know she loved this photo on the cover. Some graffiti I used to see in a dodgy part of town. I told her about it, and then one day got someone to stop the car so I could snap a picture of it -- which I then sent to her and she loved! I told her it could perhaps make great album cover art someday. Didn't expect it would turn out like this!

I agree 100%. I lost a good friend recently who was within niche art circles I used to be a part of in my 20s and early 30s. When I left those art circles, I still kept in touch with him. He passed in his 40s just a week or two ago.

Then I found out one of the guards I used to know from my highschool passed in 2022. He was only 50 years old. That one also hurt. Just too much death around us these days.

This one was more a hurried process than usual, but just had to keep pushing ahead.

It still sounds fantastic to me, up to your usual standards. If you hadn't told me it was a rush job, I wouldn't have known the difference.

That's pretty amazing I gotta say. Using your friend's favourite photo as an album cover makes the track as a whole even more personal. Sending you lots of hugs. I also hope more people give your track a listen and give the Sonic State article a read.

OMG Inky! You are so much more popular than me! For whatever reason, this tune is the most ignored thing I've ever posted on this particular forum. Fine, whatever. But it is by FAR the most viral thing I've ever seen on Youtube channel! Like WAY more views and comments in 3 days than one of my typical releases gets in months. Ha, what a world! You spend months crafting and polishing something and it winds up mostly invisible to the universe. Which is fine, whatever, I get it... The Internet is a zillion things vying for shorter and shorter attention spans. But this little thing you slap together in a couple of days ... It blows up your channel! (At least on the scale of my modest Youtube stats.) And it's all because of you, Inky! You are so missed and loved by so many, my friend! <3

It seems to be the way it goes. I spent a few more working hours than usual on a complex piece of Trance, and it currently went ignored. But one sh-tty piece of throwaway Lofi on Soundcloud, and it blows up. At least your quickly-made production is dedicated to someone close. 😅

  • Gentle bump up.

  • A touching tribute, immaculately produced. Ascending to the heavens vibes. I didn’t know of her, but I read the article you linked to. It seems she meant a lot to a lot of people.

  • nice tune.

  • Lovely tribute @Lady_App_titude

    Wow, so young!

I didn’t see it mentioned in the article; anyone know the cause of death?

    Thanks!

"Natural causes," is all that has been released. That is apparently per the wishes of the family, so obviously we all respect that. To me, such generic language is supposed to sound like normal and nothing unusual, but its very vagueness seems to have the opposite feel. So who knows? It wasn't murder or suicide, but beyond that we may never know. The main thing is that it was sudden and unexpected, that much we do know. She was very active right up to the end, disappearing during the third day of an online music event, in which she was very active the two previous days.

    I'll never stop missing her.

  • Enjoyed this a lot. Love the big lush opening sound and especially the unexpected chord change at 0:17. I like how it transitions. The guitar player is very good and could teach a class in tasteful restraint. The whole thing sounds very good in my headphones.

She is quite pretty. Something about that smile. Mona Lisa…

I lost my best friend in 2010, also unexpected and unexplained. He visits occasionally in dreams and we hang out like old times.

I’m sorry for your loss. We will all meet again.

Thanks, @Paulieworld. The guitar part was the last part I added.. basically I just improvised it in one take. The whole thing was kind of a rush job, but it felt good to pour myself into something for a couple of days.

  • Lovely tribute, superb guitar solo , certainly didn’t sound rushed 🙏

  • It is a beautiful song and even more so knowing its context as a tribute to your dear friend. Thank you

Thanks so much! Mainly just a few minor things about the mix bother me a bit.. Stuff probably nobody else would notice.
