Amazing track, mate
Of course you have a midas touch and turn your gear into gold... But the M8 is an awesome little device
Thanks !
It is !! I expected it will be good but honestly i am surprised how AMAZING it is. How fast is workflow yet with incredible detailed editing .. And those bundled synths are fantastic.. This is above all my expectations by large margin.
Sounds great mate 👍🏼 New bits of kit bring new inspiration. I’ve just had a modwave mk 2 arrive today. Had a little play and love it. Really reminds me of Obsidian. Can’t wait to dig into a bit of sound design tonight.
Very impressive!
I wanna ROCK!
I mean, I like the rock. 😉
Cool jam! Love the glides. Impressive little device.
just watched modwave review on
“Bad Gear” channel and got strong GAS for it 😂 looks like pretty powerfull synth, looking foreard for your jams with it
thanks
Very clever indeed (trackers are alien to me), good job! Sounds awesome!
There seems to be a M8 2.0 to be released soon. $650 seems to be the preorder price.
That said, what you did on the original M8 is pretty incredible.
It's already released, mine is Model:02 ... In terms of firmware they both are identical, it's creator said he will try keep them both compatible as soon as possible ... Model:02 has slightly better enclosure, slightly bigger display, better battery, built-in microphone ..
Here small comparison:
I will check this out during lunch. Then I will edit this comment and let you know my thoughts.
EDIT: I enjoyed that video a lot. Doesn't seem to be too much of a difference between the two devices, other than screen size and battery life and USB-C on the new one. Question for you Dendy - is it possible to access the files within the M8 via iPad? Or is it more like the OP-1 Field where you can only access the files via a laptop?
Nice work Dendy!
Indeed USB-C, battery life, and screen size were indeed reasons cited by peeps in the M8 user community who decided to order the Model:02 version instead of sticking to the OG M8.
Worth mentioning to the M8-curious that you can try the M8 Headless version if you don't feel comfortable investing in a handheld M8. You would need a Teensy device - so the Headless option is not free but quite a bit cheaper. More info here: https://github.com/DirtyWave/M8Docs/blob/main/docs/M8HeadlessSetup.md
The reason I ask is I may want to get a M8 v2 for myself for Christmas sometime in December, but not if the files can't be accessed via iPad.
That said, I think once I finish my current album/EP project, I will dig into Sunvox and get a feel for how trackers work.
Well regarding plans when to buy - bear in mind this thing is not commonly available in classical music gear stores. It ´s all made by single guy as hobby project, and distribution is made in form of batches. Once per few months he opens online shop on his site for preorders of small batch - it usually takes hour or max two and it is again sold out.. You make order, you pay - and then you wait for few monts until he finalises whole batch and starts shipping. I ordered mine in April and received it in August.
You can register your email on his wensite to get notified when new batch is opened (i think next one is planned for september) but then you have to act quickly (better in minutes - sooner you make order, sonner you get your device delivered)
Notification is delivered usually few day before order possibility window is opened.
Good idea is also register to community Discord, to be more close to informations
He is from US so your advantage is no duty :-)) I had to pay 180€ duty / vat on delivery
It doesn’t support usb mass storage mode so no direct transfer via usb, but it has microSD card (where all your files are stored) so if you have some microSD card reader for are good to go
It has extensive audio/midi connection features thought and works with iOS seamlessly..
usb audio in both sides - you can send audio to iPad and you can sample audio from iPad.. you can even pass in realtime iPad audio through M8 built in reverb, delay and chorus
midi over usb - again both sides, notes, CC's, clock, somg positio, sync .. you can control iPad synths from M8 and you can control M8 instruments using iPad sequencer
Somi think in my opinion it works pretty well with iPad
that being said - i tried sunvox many times always ended absolutely frustrated by it's UI .. so don't judge these HW trackers (polyend mini and M8) - they are completely different beasts in terms of user experience.. well laid UI with few buttons so you can absolutely rely in your muscle memory makes VAAAAAST difference...
Oh I won't. I saw a couple walkthrough videos of the M8, and it definitely seems far easier than Sunvox's modular approach.
Ah now I see.
Ah okay. Hopefully I can get on the ShopPay plan in that time frame, lol. Registered my email.
Okay, that's good.
I'll look that up.
Yikes! VAT is definitely expensive.
PHEW! That's easy. Just buy a card reader for my iPad (or even my iPhone) and I'm solid.
That's excellent.
That is awesome, and yeah, that built-in reverb sounds amazing.
Excellent to hear. Okay, this is probably a stupid question that can be answered by the manual, but does the M8 v2 have internal recording/rendering of a project?
You can render entire song master mix or you can render also indivisual tracks as stems and fx send tracks too (chorus, delay, reverb independently)
You can also render selection (handy for resampling to free up tracks)
Of course also sampler is capable to sample realtime ouput of any other track, or master mix (or from usb and audio input of course)
Oh that's pretty sweet! Many ways to render and record a track. Yeah, I'm definitely going to buy a M8 (most likely via ShopPay) once it's available (hopefully some time next month). I miss my OP-1 Field, but that was too much per month for my meager budget. Slightly under $60/month is more doable for me.
