At the risk of hijacking this thread from last month…
As @bezz_jeens mentioned Procreate, we might have similar wishes.
Maybe this GIF can help explain what I want.
The idea is, I can draw “organic” curves with my Apple Pencil and use that with FX.
(Just bought Kuvert… without realizing that it’s not AUv3. (Klevgrand has a flash sale so it was only 4CAD. I won’t cry over it or ask for a refund.))
Wish I had the same thing as an AU MIDI which can produce any curve in realtime for LFO or MSEG in any parameter exposed to the host. Even better if it’s on top of some visualization of the audio or MIDI, thought that’s not necessary.
Honestly, it’s quite a different experience from setting Bézier curves, breakpoint by breakpoint. Even if the results end up being similar, the playflow is really special. Feels so… smooth, simple, fun, creative…
Wonder if I can create something like this in Plugdata.
Since I started patching and coding things in Plg and/or Lua, I almost stopped purchasing plugins. The iPadOS version still has a few limitations because of the filesystem. Still, it’s such a pleasant experience to create my own plugins and run them across platforms…
@bezz_jeens
There are really a lot of ways to do it in Drambo.
Just a few ideas:
@rs2000 Said:
If ProCreate can export SVG or any vectorized format, this could be converted to a Graphic Shaper or Graphic Modulator preset file (XML format) that has much finer resolution than the 64 step quantize grid
That sounds cool, how would you load those files/where would you put them?
You'd place these in the preset folder of Graphic Shaper or Graphic Modulator:
~Drambo/Presets/Graphic modulator/
~Drambo/Presets/Graphic shaper/
I would look at existing presets as a template to start from.
@rs2000 thanks:)
Xequence's "Draw" mode in the controller editor works exactly like this and has a resolution of 24576 divisions per quarter note, and 14-bit (16384 divisions) vertically if you use the Pitch Bend controller or an NRPN set to 14-bit.
In addition, it offers almost the same amount of convenience as curve-based editors, with its various scaling and ramping tools for drawn controller data, if desired.
Beta?
BTW, Amadine has clean import/export of SVG files.

@Luxthor No, it was possible since the birth of Drambo.
The thing is that hardly anyone knew about it 😉
There is the free, crazily named ddtctmcc-ff, which lets you draw and record cc on an XY pad. Auv3, easy to use. It doesn't get mentioned much; probably because of it's crazy unrememberable name.
Adding my vote to Xequence here!
Yup. Definitely Xequence.
Midimixer by 4Pockets has this feature but only a few CC’s that you can assign anywhere you want. The rest are pre assigned to the pan, volume, etc…
Really cool app, Plus the paid version with a little more inside. It’s Not drawing over a timeline but drawing in a 2d space over time.
Is it true that NASA used Xequence to return stranded astronauts? if not, I reckon it could have.
I'm curious if you ever tried that paid version. I couldn't get it to work for me so I keep using the free one. I'm not sure if I'm just not getting it.
You know, the funny thing is that the control panels (touch screens) in SpaceX's Dragon capsule use a very similar technology stack and approaches as Xequence in their user interface implementation 😃
So thinking a bit outside of the box, I would say take a look at Panflow same co. that does Riffer.
You can do curves that “auto” adapt to where to move the control point you can adjust the range to be either side of 0 or both, and there’s a threshold as well to attenuate the range. If you don’t want curve you can drop in ramps and stepped values. (I don’t think you can mix the shapes)
It values can be manipulated as well as the speed and resolution and if you unsync the AU you can drop or raise the duration to be almost arbitrarily faster or slower than the clocked tempo.
A couple of hints for usage:
You have to put it in an audio effect position in Aum and activate the midi out.
As far as “drawing” it pretty fast and fluid. Not true drawing but at least you don’t have to fiddle with Bézier curve handles.
Maybe something like this?

YES!
Keep forgetting about this one. And it’s the basic functionality I’ve been wanting.
Thanks for the reminder.
(Might try the paid version as well.)
I find it pretty useful- if you can get the paid version working I’d like to know how.
Will do! Might wait until there’s a sale. Last one was in July.
Now, I must say, my enthusiasm was dampened a bit. For one thing, it sounds like it only supports 7-bit messages, so it doesn’t really work for pitchbend (which, contrary to the claim from Whirled Notes/Scratchvox CTO Macchia) has a range of 16k values, as it’s encoded as a 14-bit.
Another issue is that I can’t find a way to restrict the drawing to a function (a single Y value per X value).
As for the paid version, it might be fun to manipulate loops.
Still, the basic idea is very close to what I want. So, thanks again!
