iPod Touch Dock
Hello everyone:
Can someone help me out here??? Long story short i am getting a brand new iPad for free (Bank account promotion) I'm looking to make it a dedicated portable music setup. While doing my research, i found out, that there is hardware albeit old, that you can doc the iPad is to give it different audio ports. So if i can find one second hand I'm going for the behringer iStudio i think its called, because its the only one that has has the lightning port.
I then got wondering if i can get something like this for my iPod touch (the latest one as far as i know, since they stopped making them, so an iPod touch 8)
And the only one i could find was the akai synthstation 25 keys. But i really don't like how it looks, and its got the wrong port anyways which can be an easy fix with an adapter since is seems like its more built to accommodate some older bigger models.
Truth be told even though it looked promising, i didn't feel right about the 49 key version for my iPad, which surprises me, as i LOVE akai products. The synthstation 49 would be a dream, except there are only 9 pads and they are not backlit, which i know don't mean EVERYTHING, but when i saw it being demonstrated, it was a drag to hear just how loud they are to use.
Anyways as far as the iPad is concerned i think i will be happy with the Behringer iStudio, (Love Behringer Products too) but i need a midi set up, and would love to include my ipod as part of the set up, i just want to see what possible with extra screen real estate. If i can't find anything suitable i may just get the MPK 3 Mini Plus, and try to find something for the iPod later. To which ill welcome those ideas as well.
One more question, is with the Behringer iStudio, what mics and headphones and other gear would work well with it? Should i consider any of the iRig lineup for microphones and stuff?
Thanks in advance guys.

Those dedicated hardware solutions are kind of out of vogue now because apple does not keep them working right. Not only port changes but also system updates create problems.
Exactly. It's safer to use the Apple Lightning to USB-3 Camera Adapter (with the Lightning power port), then select from the plethora of USB gear. Just be sure the gear is USB Class-Compliant, so it does not require a special driver.
IIRC, the iStudio does not have lightning but rather the even older 30-pin connector.
If you get a new iPad, are you sure it's not USB-C?
Please also re-check which iPod Touch model you have. Does it have a Lightning connector?
For Lightning, I do like the Focusrite iTrack Dock but that's landscape format.
You might want to correct the typo in the thread title as the question is about iPad, not iPod. On the other hand it did get my attention that way. 😎
If it's a larger device that the i-device is supposed to fit into make sure you can test it before buying or return it if it doesn't fit. i-device size or button location changes, even subtle ones, can make accessories like this unusable (same deal with iPad covers).
Man that focusrite istation is cool
Too bad they (needlessly) phased out lightning
No that was on purpose, because i had found something for the ipad already.
So something else i was considering is doing hardware mod, but I'm not very talented in that regard, is there anyone that would fuze multiple hardware peices into one foe me, if i bought what i wanted and sent it to said person? I understand this would be costly, especially because a new shell would have to be 3D Printed, any ideas regarding that?
