Help needed MIDI mapping the m-vave SMC-pad midi controller over bluetooth in Koala

edited September 21 in Hardware

Has anyone here had success using the m-vave SMC-pad midi controller with Koala?

I took delivery of one yesterday, and had partial success mapping it to Koala by USB-C cable on my iPad, but can't seem to get it working over bluetooth, even though it shows as connected. Any advice would be most welcome.

I'd welcome any suggestions on best practices with setting this controller up with Koala, or with other apps also. Plus, I'd welcome any alternative suggestions if you've tried it but ended up using a different controller. I almost went with the Korg Nanopad 2, so I'm interested to hear if anyone else has tried both.

Have you checked with a midi monitor to see what it is sending and on what channel?

Download a midi monitor. Use your host to make sure the controller shows as connected to Bluetooth midi .launch the midi monitor (I like ShowMIDI for tasks like this). Do stuff on the controller and see what midi is being sent.

Thanks, I haven't come across the MIDI monitor thing before, downloading ShowMIDI now.

Hi, sorry, I've been off sick the last three weeks. Just trying to set this up again now. I've loaded ShowMidi, and I'm seeing MIDI data being sent via bluetooth, so I'm wondering where things are going wrong.

At this point, I'm lost, and feeling like if setup isn't going to be easy with this, that the SMC-PAD will have to go. It's taking up to much time that could be used for music making instead. So frustrating.

Any help today before I give up and process a return on it would be most welcome.

Did you try using koala’s midi learn? Since your iPad is seeing the midi, there doesn’t seem to be issue with the smc-pad. It might be easier to help you if you post a video of how you are going about the mapping.

I resolved this in the end, by doing a factory reset of the M-VAVE SMC-PAD. All is good now. Still no idea what exactly the problem was, but what matters is that it's now sorted. :)

  • How did you do the factory reset? My device only has the light of the lateral buttons on and nothing else is working. Laptops and phones are not recognising the device anymore so I can't manage it from any app. Thank you for the support 😊
