On a hardware kick currently. The Volca Modular-tastic: Wednesday’s Child

“Wednesday’s child is full of woe.”

It will surprise no-one who knows me that I was, indeed, born on a Wednesday.

The recent purchase of the great but damaged System-1, along with some other toys which showed up recently have swayed me to a bit of a hardware kick of late. I’m just about to reconfigure my studio for the nth time to try and make it sensibly accommodate all the bits and bobs I’ve accumulated in a way which lets me use the damn things before the passing urge dissipates in a frustrating hunt for leads, power supplies, and available work surfaces. In the process, dug out my Volca Modular, and found myself accidentally creating a vaguely credible cello sound on it. The rest is history, and a lot of manual live looping into AUM File Players using my trusty ten quid interface. (Too impatient to grok Loopy Pro today.)

Enjoy?

This track shall boost Volca Modular sales like never before! 😁
    Incredible.

  • I really like that synthetic cello of dread sound and whatever it is you did to bookend this piece!

  • The Volca modular is good, although a tad on the metallic sounding side, was it the System 1 keyboard that’s damaged, because they’re have the worst keybed, if you could call it a keybed I’ve ever encountered, many kids toy keyboards have a better and durable set of keys.

  • Thanks all for the listens and the comments. The bookend screams, @myapologies , are just me viciously twisting the onboard ‘reverb’ effect on the Volca along with fold whilst triggering the highest note on the keyboard manually. You can make some pretty evil sounds that way.

  • Not sure if it sounded like a cello but it was flipping excellent 🙏

  • This sounds fantastic. A real haunted house movie soundtrack
