Beta Testers Wanted - Surreal Machines Crack Transient Designer and Dynamics

Hello friend people of Audiob.us,

We're back with another beta. This time "Crack", our bread and butter transient designer.
There is a limited beta group to join here:
https://testflight.apple.com/join/PtyQuUyR

The DSP is 100% the same as our other versions (VST/AU/Max for Live) but for the iOS version we created an adaptive UI so give resizing a try besides the other usual iOS stuff.

We here on this thread to join the conversation but reporting bugs via TestFlight is the best way for us to track them.

Happy testing.

  • Matt,

I absolutely love it! It compliments my main setup and I will take any transients I can get.

My scripts rely on those transients and discharges to convert to melody.

    Will be using a lot

incidentally, our first thought for price is $2.99

It seems like a decent price to me. ;)

I don't usually partake in beta testing, but this has me intrigued. I wonder how it'll compare to FAC Transient. Will test.

    @sigma79
It's meant mostly for transient material like drum/percussion.
The Maximizer has a ridiculous range. Anything above 50% is really getting into character domain, but there is a dry/wet knob for the whole device.
The main feature though is the Attack and Sustain dials. Both down is the least common configuration. Most common it making things spikier (Attack up and Sustain down), but also making things beefier (Attack up or down and Sustain up). Maximizer on top will totally mess with the whole thing but often in surprising and interesting ways (think of it as being a different type of OTT... it tries to always force the signal to unity but with a special envelope and a very low threshold, almost like the opposite of a compressor with infinite ratio and a super low threshold).

    Thanks.

    Looking forward to release Matt.

    Will need for drums.

  • Hi.

Forgive the vids if it does a diservice to app.

The shaper is good for drums.

And tested against punchlab ( with drambo adsr module )

It maybe that I get better with punchlab and not really need a shaper

but if I find its easier to keep original sound by using crack.

    The drambo adsr is decay

    The crack knob is sustain

Perhaps crack app needs a decay also.

Not sure if transient shapers need decay and I can use drambo module amyway.

    At end of vid.

  • Do like the adsr module.

With a drum machine per track.

And the module needing midi to trigger.

Its a lazy but also live way to shape drums.

The transient is good if you cant trigger an adsr with midi.

I’ve found that this app is really easy to use and dial up sound balances to taste. I like the dynamics options.
It’s a little power house and doesn’t require too much thinking time to get something useable. I’ve been using it in AUM and have had no issues with it so far.

  • Nice to hear!
I found a bug when I tap on a parameter name to set it on the iPad (parameters all get stuck) but am having issues reproducing it. Can anyone reproduce it?

  • I haven’t been able to reproduce it yet. Tried each parameter. I’ll keep tapping things to see if I can get it to happen…

  • I’m going to test this now!

  • And it's out....
