Foray Into LoFae (updated with recommendations from those more suited than I)
Foray into Lofay was the first time I felt like I could build on what I had (not just a Let's Try Things And See)
So I'm on a return trip thru The Thin Lands for Foray Into LoFae
Many people here had great advice (whole new drums for this!) and I'm really enjoying where it's going!
Along with drums (been checking out J Dilla for inspo), messed with eq, compression and Doctor Vibe to get the beat a bit poppier
(Still no variation in drum pattern, but that'll def come later)
Added electric and bowed bass too (again, upon recommendation)
Again, thoughts and advice are very much appreciated!
I'm really using this track to get my feet under me, so if anything else needs sprucing up or whatever, please let me know
Thanks for being awesome!

Definitely an improvement. You seem to be getting the hang of it, that's for sure. I didn't know Loopy Pro can do all that, holy sh-t. Once Loopy Pro gets MIDI and automation, I could see myself using that exclusively as my main DAW of choice.
Yep, some variation here is needed in the drums as you already pointed out, but other than that, I really can't find much to critique.
MANY thanks! You got me on the right track in afew ways here
Fun note, didn't attempt sequencer for drums, still played live, just adjusted my mindset
It was obvs the J Dilla recommend... But thru that, I found Questlove talking about Dillas inspiration on him, and a description and live play he did... I was like 'ooooohhhhhh *click*'
Not that I've gotten to any point close to either influence, but the understanding snapped in, and I felt the dollyzoom of the Food Critic at the end of Ratatouille xD (or Jaws, if you're ooooold... Like me lol)
Yeah, loopy is wild when you start digging in. And yes, MIDI and automation..... Wheeeewww can't wait to see what comes along with that. Can't even comprehend at this point. And while I've become adept at setting up Actions and combining some backed things... I haven't even begun to touch Follow Actions, which is just another level of crazy options and possibilities to open up
Michael is gorram brilliant with this thing, and keeps breaking my brain with new ideas
Hahaha, Ratatouille and Jaws are two phenomenal movies! I'm glad to hear about your process and how you tweaked your thinking and all that. Keep up the great work.
That's a damn fact. @Michael is one of the most brilliant iOS developers. Gave us Audiobus (which was a precursor to IAA and then AUv3), and gave us the Loopy series of apps, with Loopy Pro being the crowning jewel.
I honestly need to get back into Loopy Pro as it's been forever since I opened the app last. I think I also need to purchase any upgrades I missed to further support Michael as well as to have new features to play around with. (I think once I finish my current album, it'll be time to create an EP in Loopy Pro as-is.)
Nice laidback, mellow track. I didn’t hear much reverb on the drums, but I like what you did. They sound more like a real drummer in the room rather than just a track that was overlaid on the music. We are all learning how to do this. I try to get a little better each time. I’m not always successful, but as Steve Jobs once said… The journey is the reward. Make music that you like to listen to. The internet is a big place and you will always find people that dig your stuff. Now get busy on your next one!
Very enjoyable, thanks for posting !
It wasn’t a hard listen on the first go, so keep doing you!
Languid in the best sense of the word. Nice work!
Thanks so much for all the input! Yes, definitely trying to apply additional reccs each time, and I'm greatful for the (sometimes repeated) advice. It all makes complete sense, just gotta lock in each of the steps!
But, it's all being taken in and application will absolutely heard in all future works (as long as memory holds out 😅)
That's for the help on this crazy enjoyable ride
Mad appreciation to you and the others here unlocking my understanding of the sounds and elements i have had playing in my head that I can now more correctly express and allow others to hear 🙌❤️
Absolutely and thank you for all the Swam inspiration!!
Once I get the creation flow down for these "basics" (quotes since it's not basic in the least... But will be a base floor for what I'm hoping to do), I've been working on expressive play options (videos of a handful of hardware options will be happening once camera is acquired) for the library of instruments I've picked up
(From the jump, I've wanted to use orchestral and big band instruments and groups as my front sounds, so I've been hardcore working on that while simultaneously doing the Lofi schooling and taking personal classes for Beginners Video Editing....... Ok, they are all obsessions running congruently, just so happens they're all lining up into one thing)
All that said, you're work is VERY inspirational to towards that, so your words of encouragement probably means a lot more than you realize
Not blowing smoke, before I could pick any of them up, I was relistening to whatever random song of yours would pop up here (and with a little back log clicking) for a combo of A. Lusting after getting to play and B. Getting ideas of how different instruments could sound in a more longform produced, but completely attainable thru a bit of work and practice
So you could say you ALSO helped stave me off of too many impulse purchases and thus adding unnecessarily needed rocky ground to a quote stable marriage!
[Edit omg QUITE stable marriage. What a typo! It stays because funny but, srlsly we in a very good place 😂😂]
But pulling back from the slightly exaggerated, thank you for the kind words and the additional interactions on YouTube. Excited to join you guys with creation and instruction side of this wild industry
[edit: I know that's a lot of words for a small comment, but I've been wanted to express admiration since seeing you commenting on YouTube, but struggle with 'saying too much' --- as obviously seen recently. So it was bottled up xD]
Haha thank you! Once I can get the creation flow down for consistent, decent lofi, end-game plans - they're all hitting the chopping block for 90s boombap samples
So I suppose 'not a hard listen' is just under what I'm aiming for! 😅
Omg 😂
Ok, so first thank you for the new word! I'm a sucker for etymology and that reaches into knowing the exact word for something. Will definitely be locking that away
So, cut to me doing a quick Google to learn
And my brain misremembering your comment as reading "Languid in every sense of the word"
And my heart stopped for a sec... Not in a world ended way but just an 'ouch! ...potentially...'
Came back and let out a sigh 😂😂
Thank you!! I'm a big fan of auditory ennui... My brain runs a million miles a minute, and occasional approximate alliteration, fueled by anxiety and ideas, if some how sound waves can level that shit*? ...and now I CAN DO IT TOO?!
'Languid' just fits the bill so much snugger than 'ennui'
[*Now if only I could find that for tinitis 😅]
