Looking for an iPhone app for live band Multitrack Recording
I play in a Power Trio Classic-Prog-Rock-Etc. kind of band, and I'm looking for an iOS app (that can run on an ancient iPhone 6 😅), using an Audio Interface to record 8 inputs (Focusrite Scarlett 18i8) simultaneously. Hope to get some recommendations.
So far I have AUM, that I use to trigger some sounds and play chords with a KMI 12 Step pedal, but I don't think that AUM is a good fit for recording 8 Tracks, and managing/transferring the Song audio files later on to Reaper (the DAW I use on PC)
I have seen some reviews about Audio Evolution Mobile Studio, and MultiTrack DAW, n-Track, to name a few, but not sure yet, and hope someone can provide some comments/recommendations
Thanks in advance

Loopy Pro can do that. Despite its name, it can do linear recording and playback and can easily export stems.
Interesting, can it record multiple audio inputs at the same time?
I was under the impression that it goes one at a time, Thanks, I'll check Loopy Pro out
It can record as many inputs as you can receive. Its default setup is one at a time but that can be turned off.
Cubasis or Zenbeats can both do this. Of those two I'd consider Cubasis to be likely more reliable and lower on resource utilization, and Cubasis is a fine example of a classic linear multitrack DAW.
I see no reason why AUM isn’t appropriate for that task. All you need to do is set up an empty project with all your inputs and save it. Then to get going, start a new session, name it, and import the channels from the saved empty session. Arm the channels and you're ready to go. Files will be saved all in a folder with the project name, easy to find to transfer to a daw.
MultiTrack DAW is also very good for this. It's simple, efficient, has lots of sample rate and bit depth options and has been around forever. I'd say it's a little easier to navigate on a phone than AUM, but ymmv.
Audio Evolution is great too. I feel a bit awkward navigating the interface, but it's very solid.
My recommendation is to fully trial AUM for this before messing around with other solutions that you don't have yet.
File transfer to the PC will be the next hurdle. You can do it through the iOS files app if you set up a network share on your windows PC. tbh I haven't had perfect luck with that in the past, but it's not difficult to try.
The old school way of copying to a USB stick and physically walking it to the PC is still a great option.
Then there's iCloud for Windows. That looks promising, but I'm not busting out the PC to try it for you. 😉
I already was thinking that AUM could handle the task using a Session/Project as template to for recording songs, but I'm already using AUM to handle "bass pedal" sounds and trigger brief audio files, not sure if it can handle also the multitrack (maybe 8) recording at the same time, I'll have to make some testing with AUM for sure.
Thanks!
Using AUM for both would be lighter weight than adding another whole app into the mix to handle recording. It shouldn't be very hard on the CPU.
The one thing that makes me doubt about using AUM this way is that I already trigger some samples/loops at certain moments of s song, and for this I use midi cc to "Play Enable" for the File Player, and then other midi cc to "AUM Transport - Start Play" or "AUM Transport - Stop/Rewind" to actually trigger the audio file.
So as I remember the Transport will have to be running in order to Record the channels/tracks for the different Audio Interface Inputs (Instruments/Mics) , Right?
After Googling a bit more, maybe using the 4Pockets Auv3 MultiTrack Recorder Plugin, that has "play and record modes (when not synced to host)" 🤔, are you familiar with this Auv3 plugin?
Lots of options, basically any DAW, or Host as long as you have enough mics and/or inputs in your audio interface.
