Loopy HD available for MacOS, but not Loopy Pro?

Seems I can load up Loopy HD on the Mac but not Loopy Pro....anyone know the difference, or why this is?

  • Looks like the MacOS version is coming soon.

MacOS version is in beta and has been for some time. I wouldn't count on "soon" meaning "immanent".

Loopy Pro for Mac will be a separate app optimized for Mac. It requires significant additional development and testing and isn’t just the iOS version with an option to run on the Mac.

Yeah I get that, but why have Loopy HD available, in that case? Would have thought neither would be MacOS ready...

You're assuming they're related somehow. They're not. They're completely separate programs.

When the Apple Silicon Macs were introduced, Apple set things up such that all iOS/iPadOS programs would automatically be available in the MacOS App Store for Apple Silicon Macs by default. Developers needed to specifically opt out apps from the App Store if they didn't want them available for MacOS. They would do that if the apps wouldn't work well on the Mac, if they didn't want the added support burden and/or complaints, or for other reasons such as not wanting to encroach on their desktop priced products.

Michael decided that having a non optimal "automatic" porting of Loopy Pro wasn't the way to go. He's working on a full Mac native version that will be supported not only on Apple Silicon, but also Intel Macs. It'll be a full port, fully supported, and optimized for the Mac.

Nothing at all was done to Loopy HD to "make" it run on Apple Silicon. Michael just didn't opt-out of having it listed.

    I hope that helps clarify.

Ahhh, ok yes that makes sense. My bad for not realising they are, indeed, different!

It's not something that anyone would intuitively know.

The move by Apple to make apps available by default on Apple Silicon was an excellent marketing move for them. But confusing and maybe not quite as advantageous to developers. At least they did supply the option to actively opt out though.
