Smells Like Beef Mirin - [Lofi 2]

Time to see if I can put the lessons into practice!

Surprisingly decent on phone speakers, but headphones/buds add fun immersion

Any thoughts or ideas towards or about it, lemme know! :D

--

And one minor issue arose, for which I could use advice, please!

Realized as I was wrapping up that the loops end suddenly at the very end (didn't record em proper)

Rather than rerecording the two loops needed for the end, what advice can I get from you production wizards about how I can add a trail-off at the end... Preferably in loopy since that's the only daw I'm fluent in

My plan of attack as of now is taking the full recorded track, pulling it into two channels (empty canvas. Even default should work)

Under Session, just have one full track play to the end, save for the last quarter bar. Cut it a quarter bar short, and add just that quarter bar to the end and add effects

Here's my ignorance... I'm assuming a reverb and delay could be tweaked to a decent fade off tail, but I'm sure there's a more succinct way of doing it (or this whole fix in general?)

  • Nice!

@PapaBPoppin can you explain more what the problem is that needs fixing?

Did you know that you can export a stereo mix from the sequencer page or the stems?

  • I’m not familiar with Loopy. Can you add external effects? If so, check out Other Desert Cities. It’s default delay is outstanding, but the other effects are great, too. I’m sure you will find something that you will like. I use it all the time.

Loopy Pro can host AUv3 and IAA

The two loops which play out at the end, they just stop. It’s all in how I recorded

I know how to correct this on record via tail recording, or just paying closer attention to release and being aware to stop holding the note sooner…

But since it was during finishing touches that I realized… and it’s only noticable at the end, I don’t know options (this type of editing is all new to me, I can play and replay until correct. But going back at the end and digitally making it work, that’s a different field), or if it’s possible in just loopy

I mean maybe I could load up GarageBand and just automate the fx at the end (and if that’s not a thing… it should now be apparent how little I’ve stepped outside the comfy safety net of Loopy), but having only used it lightly 4 or 5 times, another new ui to learn is enough to say ‘eh, it’s fine’ and not worry for this one….. but it’d be good to know in general

Did you know that you can export a stereo mix from the sequencer page or the stems?

Speaking of my ignorance, I saw those options while looking around while wandering/learning early on, but I don’t know how I’d use them, or how that’d help here (heh. Not like, “pff, I fail to see how that helps.” Simply my inability to make the connection

Thanks for the rec! Yes, Loopy can def host auv3s

For this specific, I’m looking to see how I can add a faux release tail at the end of the song. The two loops playing aren’t setup to have the tails going any longer than the end of the loop

I am unfamiliar with how to digitally make that correction, but I’m hoping someone here can give me pointers

(I only assume a reverb/delay combo might fake it…. But I’m veeeery new to backend sound design. Been learning. Lots, but certain I’m missing a lot of basic, across-the-board knowledge as well)

One Wah of addressing it is to put those two loops on a color that has the delay and/or reverb you want and extend the events and fade out (either automated or by hand).

    Ah ok wonderful!

"By hand" I assume is by hitting record and fade the end manually?

How would I do automated? Is there built in automation in loopy I've missed (I know there's planned) or is this via another plugin?

(Sorry if these are overly novice questions, still finding whole new areas to learn and I appreciate the guidance)

You can for example create a button widget that when pressed sets the master volume to its minimum and set it to ramp down and then stop the transport. You can trigger that by hand or midi or create a dummy clip with a play follow action that triggers the widget and insert the dummy clip where you want the fade to happen. With some imagination you can automate quite a bit with that method.

Ok, so, first thought (to make sure I follow)

I just put the recorded track into a one shot, have a 'tail' widget to quickly ramp up the wet of whatever tail combo I come up with, and a slower ramp down vol at end?

Follow Actions: completely new territory - I could set up above concept, but in the initial build and have it auto trigger at correct time (with proper setup, off course)?!

(Would remove using another template and a full record, assuming this fkup happens again and not caught til the end. But, I haven't touched FAs yet. Interested, but too much more to get under the belt as of now)

  • Please keep in mind that this is just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions. All of the instruments have a nice large room feel. The drums, however, sound like they were recorded in a small, separate room and added later. Once again, I think a touch of reverb would bring them all together. I would consider bumping up the drums high end with EQ, just a tiny bit. I like how the bass comes in at around :36, but maybe add a bit more low end with EQ to fill out the audio spectrum. If you are looking for a nice tail at the end, once again I suggest Other Desert Cities. The default effect can be tweaked to give an almost endless tail. Sort of like the ending chord in the Beatles “A Day In The Life”. Start with a lot, then adjust down to your desired effect. It might sound cool to let it bleed into the little vocal bit at the end. I liked that unexpected ending. Nice finishing touch. Most of all, don’t overthink it. Let it flow and just make the music that you like to hear.

Great advice thank you! Will dabble and see what I can hear from it!

I forgot the drum Reverb recommend from the last track, but I’ll test along with bumping up the high end

And I’ll take a swing at bolstering the low end

And my apologies for completely missing your point with Other Desert Cities earlier in the thread! I’ll look into that!

Again, thanks so much for the input. While maybe ‘just’ opinions, y’all got a lot more experience in sound design and proper audio layouts far beyond my novice ass. And I’m taking it ALL in, I assure you (even if bits tend to fall out of the old memory sieve)

Maybe i misunderstood what you wanted to change. I wasn’t intending to recommend putting the whole track into a one shot. I was suggesting using your original sequence and extending the two loops you mentioned ending prematurely and adding reverb in the loop’s track (color) and fading out.

But maybe I am misunderstanding what you wanted to change.

    No you're dead on

...as I was typing up an explanation here, I realized that no... My question and idea were horribly flawed

So I'll awkwardly thank you for your help, ask that you just ignore that, and I'll give your method a swing to see what I can do ☺️
