Using Beatsurfing 2 as an AUV3 midi controller only

I just want to leave this here because this is something that I wanted for over a year and a half, and just finally clued in that it's been possible this whole time. For some reason I never came across this info or method anywhere else.

Beatsurfing 2 is a fantastic drumming (and more) app that unlike most offerings these days really makes use of touchscreen.

  • If you want to use beatsurfing as a midi controller for your other drum apps in either Loopy pro or AUM you need to first create and save a BS2 map that uses only the midi instruments.
  • Then load it as an AUV3 INSTRUMENT and set each midi instrument in the map to route to either Loopy or AUM (other hosts would likely work too), you set it on the BS2 instrument itself and it route it's midi to your hosts "virtual" midi instrument.
  • Then, load a virtual midi instrument into Loopy from the "add midi" menu and route it to any other drum AUV3.
  • In AUM just set the virtual instrument as the midi in for anything you want to send midi to, so no midi channel is used or needed.
  • You have to set each instrument in BS2 to output the channel and cc or notes you need.

Note that BS2 does not do state saving within projects. It's worth configuring and saving your map first. As a midi map you will have to reset the routing every time you load it though.

I AM PUMPED.

  • Bless ye sir.

  • Coincidentally BS2 came to mind a couple days ago cause I notice that nobody mentions it whenever somebody bemoans that developers aren’t taken advantage of touch surfaces anymore. Or the apps that do take advantage aren’t AU. Beatsurfing 2 is AU.

It should also be noted that BS2 is no longer subscription based, which subs are another big complaint on this forum.

Take note if you originally subscribed, you need to request a refund and then purchase to unlock.

Thanks a lot for this thread! I never considered BS2 because of no AUv3 and the subscription model. Now this was definitely worth paying the £5.99 for the full unlock.

Absolutely right! No subscription anymore which is awesome. AUV3, and totally built for touchscreen. @Gavinski 😉💕

My only gripe now is that there's no state saving in it which can be a hassle occasionally.

Enjoy! It's an absolute blast and joy to play. 💕

Yes! More touchscreen-oriented apps like this please devs!

  • This sounds great. I have BS2 and I'd love to get back to using it again. Would this work with drambo? Anyone willing to do a video tutorial so I understand how to set this up and get it working, as I'm a bit confused of everything I need to do.

  • The BS2 website is good and has tutorials. I believe it has everything you need to get you going, that is if you’re already comfortable with Dambro.
