SOLVED - Any great apps to edit photos? (AI recommendations are welcome)

After hearing that Canva has a $600 subscription for the pro features because, you guessed it, AI....

I'm looking for some great recommendations for apps to edit photos. I use the stock photos app a lot, but I'm looking for other recommendations

Also, new profile picture. London was awesome.

  • Affinity Photo 2 immediately springs to mind. Might be overkill depending on your needs but it’s very capable. Recently bought by Canva apparently but they’ve promised it’ll stay subscription free.

  • It depends on what you mean by editing photos. Do you want to alter the colors, make it look better or do you want to draw and all? My goto photo app is ProCamera for taking pictures and edit them (color/adjustments). For serious editing work, indeed Affinity Photo or look at Pixelmator Pro.

I can recommend ArtStudio Pro by Lucky Clan (Polish company that has been doing apps to iOS since the beginning) - it's an app for everything, drawing, editing and import/export pictures in a variety of format...

AND, it's both iPhone and iPad compatible...

Drawback - it´s subscription, but, only around 7 bucks a year...

Affinity Photo v2 is super great, but, maybe it's overkill - The whole Affinity Suite can be bought for around 150 bucks and contains the apps for everything, on three platforms (universal licence) - iPad, Mac, Windows...

    https://www.luckyclan.com/apps/artstudiopro-ios

    Req. iOS/iPadOS 15.x and above...

PS. I manage even to run it on my MacBook Pro (Apple Silicon)...

This is how the iPad version looks like when running on the Mac:

  • Thanks @HolyMoses . Just bought the lifetime unlock of Artstudio. Need it for a lot of Youtube videos. Better to get the cost out at once, than forget a subscription.

Affinity, sadly won't work. I need something for iOS because I shoot videos on phones, sadly iPads are too bulky to shoot.

I do have a great video shooting app.

    Thanks everyone for the recommendations.

  • Actually, this post explained why I'm not a fan of subscriptions. Why would I borrow a tool I need to use?

Okay, now I know my stance on subscriptions. I get the point, I see the point of it, and it makes sense for subscription as a business. I'd like the option to buy the full thing at a fair price.

And if it's super expensive, do something like a rent-to-own model of having the cost of being a consistent subscription reduce the overall price.

  • Photomator

  • First things first: What exactly are you missing in the stock photos app?

Perhaps masking? Liquify? Export in all kind of format? Edit in LAB-color? Item removal?

    There is a lifetime option

Well, mostly writing text on images, and combining objects, and photos together.
I could do simple edits on Canva, but I was looking for an offline option.

Have you tried Apple's Keynote app?
    Works very well for me.

I was pleasantly surprised by Keynote when I used it. Canva had the advantage of image edits in-built in it. But I'll use it. I did a ton of work using Powerpoint and it was quite similar to Keynote.

Darkroom is great .. $99 unlock everything forever (as well as some subscription options) .. it’s my go to on iPhone and it’s universal .. totally worth it, continues to be developed and improved.

  • Pixelmator is pretty good for my uses, but I don’t know how it compares to Affinity etc.
