iPhone 16 Pro - new 'studio' microphones

Does anyone know if iOS music apps like Loopy Pro or Cubasis will be able to recognize the separate mics as separate inputs on the iPhone 16 Pro?

From this article:
"While both iPhone 16 models (as well as the iPhone 15 Pro range) will support Apple Intelligence, the 16 Pro and Pro Max have a few exclusive perks. That includes enhanced Voice Memos, which uses the Pro’s advanced mics to let you layer voice notes on top of one another — perfect for musicians who want to add vocals on top of a guitar idea or tack on some harmonies. As someone who spends most of their free time making music (and has an ungodly amount of song ideas sitting in their Voice Memos), this is the one announcement during Apple’s keynote that legitimately made me jaw drop."

  • Loopy Pro has microphone selection already, so I see no reason why apps wouldn't be able to do that with the new mics as well, provided they implement that ability.

Oh - I don't have an iPhone, yet. Does Loopy Pro currently allow you to choose top or bottom mics (or both) on the iPhone?

On my iPhone 12 I can select between Bottom, Front, and Back. I assume that's all of the mics?
You can only select one at a time though. I added a second mic input, but changing one changes them both, even with "Multi-Route Audio" enabled.

Check out Stereo Microphone by Ryouta Kira though. I think it may have some other tricks up its sleeve.

    Valuable information! Thank you.
That makes me much more interested in the 16 Pro models, now. I have a Zoom H6 for great field recording, but I end up using what's in my pocket more often than not (which is currently a Samsung Note 8). The new iPhone Pro mics seem like an improvement.

Do you know if this app is AUv3 or even IAA?

  • It's standalone. If it were a plugin it would be limited to the microphones the host can use, so it wouldn't be able to do it's magic.

Me too. I'm just waiting for the 16 Pro to be restocked on amazon.

Another side question, does any of you also lost your old account here after the forum got changed to loopy?

There are no reports of that other than one or maybe two people having an issue with their email address working with their password. I suspect that may have been because there was also a separate sign-on for Loopy Pro.com for the wiki and the roadmap sites, but I'm not sure.

What was your old account name? I can try to look into it to see if the old account is still in the database. You can also PM me your previous account's email address if you like.
