JWM - Scarlet (Epic Trance done in NS2 on iPhone)

It's been a while since I've posted to Creations, so here is a remake of the first track I've ever produced.

So back in 2002, I used to use MTV Music Generator 2000 on PC. (Yes, there was a Windows version of the classic PS1 DAW.) Of course, I knew f---all about music production back then, just how to create melodies and harmonies, so the original version sounded rather dodgy which can be heard here in this comparison.

The track is in four parts, or "movements" if you will. It starts with the first movement, aka the Medieval section and, after about a minute, the Trance begins. Movement two features Trance chord stabs, movement three has the stereotypical Trance lead, and movement four is chord stabs with the a flute playing on top.

As a nod to how I got my start in music production, most of the drums in "Scarlet" are original samples from MTV Music Generator 2000 (except the Hall Kick, which is from Deadmau5's XFer sample pack). The flute and mid bass are also from MTV Music Generator 2000. The difference is now the production sounds solid rather than a garbled mess.

Anyways, I hope you all enjoy. Cheers. 🍻

  • HUGE difference. You have really come a long way. Steve Jobs once said… The journey is the reward. I can tell you’re still digging it. I have been meaning to revisit some of my old tracks and fix them. I always seem to get started on something else and tell myself… maybe next week. Keep on keeping on!

  • Sir Galahad at the rave, the knights of the round dance floor? Ambitious and you pull it off. I respect the high standards, intricacy within your tracks, and great production value. Nice work/improvement!

Thanks mate. :) Yep sometimes if I'm creatively stuck like I am right now, I will revisit an old track that doesn't completely make me cringe (the original "Scarlet" didn't make me cringe actually) and remake it. Although I am burned out on music creation, so decided to release at least one more track from the upcoming album, whenever that'll be finished lol.

Thanks mate. Much appreciated. Would you believe the first movement was originally the fourth movement in the original version and was actually one of the Trance movements? Made more sense to put it in 6/8 time signature, give it a medieval instrumentation, and stick it in the beginning of the remake.

And believe it or not, the first movement was inspired by TE's Medieval sampler, but I didn't use any samples from that. Cooked that up on my own with my myriad of romplers. Only oneshot I used was the flute from MTV Music Generator 2000 as a nod to how I started my journey into music production 22 years ago.

(22 years ago...fuck I'm getting old! 😂 Whaddya mean the Backstreet Boys are considered oldies by now?!)

  • Great production values, more medieval for me please 🏰🪈

  • Nice work dude
You thinkin of the TE medieval ???! Lol

Knights of the Old Pre-Dub* Mix

    😂😂

  • Magik Vol 3 and DJ Baby Anne Live in Las Vegas were two obsession albs of mine in years past

While not experiencing a medieval vibe back in the day, holy balls was I throw back

    Absolutely wonderful track!

  • Just popping in for a second since there are some nice compliments here.

@GeoTony Thanks mate. :) Yes, I do love the Medieval sound at the beginning. I forgot if I mentioned above, but the first section in 6/8 time was originally the fourth section in the 2002 original "Scarlet" which was in 4/4 time.

@yellow_eyez Would be cool to have TE Medieval, but I did this 100% on iPhone. I used original samples instead of from the TE Medieval. Thanks bud.

@PapaBPoppin Thank you so kindly mate. :) I'm glad "Scarlet" helped take you on a nice nostalgia trip. "Magik Vol 3" and "DJ Baby Ann Live in Las Vegas sound" sound interesting, and I wonder now if they're available on Spotify. Loreena McKennitt's incredible music is still an inspo of mine even to this day. After hearing the radio remix of "Mummer's Dance", I bought her CD "The Book of Secrets". That album will forever be a core memory of mine. Her song "The Highwayman" is possibly the best of the bunch on that album, a 10-minute epic story set to music. Holy sh-t.
