MicroFreak/iPad Live Jam

I decided to have a play with my MicroFreak, linked to my iPad and record the outcome.
Apps used: AUM, Mixbox, Enso, FAC Alteza, Ridgewalk and Playbeat.

  • Great jam. I love the gentle sounds and then the rhythm fading in later.
MicroFreak and iPad fit well together. It’s my standard daypack / mobile jam setup. A simple iRig connects the freak to the iPad for effects. And because everything runs on USB, you can even power the whole setup from a power bank. Need a controller? Just disable “local” mode in the MIDI settings, and you can use all the freaky knobs and keys for your iPad synths while sequencing the freaks synth engine.

  • Thanks @catherder ! Yes it is a fun way to spend a little time! Thanks for the tip about turning off the “ Local” setting. I have never tried that before.

A while ago I created a wee Mozaic script that might interest you. The idea was to support jamming with the MicroFreak as both controller and synth. It allows you to quickly change the MIDI channel of incoming MIDI messages (note, CC or both) so you can switch between various soft- and hardware synths and the MF itself: https://patchstorage.com/freakontrol/

i like the shimmery sort of reverb effect, what was that? was it granular? around 7:45

  • I like it. Have you heard the awesome preset packs that Ultimate Patches put out for it? The sound demo almost makes me wish I had gotten a Microfreak instead of a Minifreak. https://www.ultimatepatches.com/syn...ia-microfreak/microfreak-patches-presets.html

  • @AlterEgo_UK, this is sounding really good. I enjoyed it

Thanks, @catherder but I don't have Mozaic and I don't often connect multiple midi devices for my sessions. I just like to get up and running quick and keep things as simple as possible

Thanks @Danny_Mammy - the only fx I used was FAC Alteza so it was probably just the interaction of the patch I chose and that app - along with Ridgewalk, maybe.

Thanks @Coloobar - yes I have seen some of those patches. Having the ability to use samples now in MicroFreak really opens things up!

Thanks @DMfan - I recorded a video of me playing the MicroFreak on my phone and screen recorded the iPad and edited them together in LumaFusion on my Mac.

  • Very nice, it all hung together nicely given you weren’t 100% what patches were going to pop up 👌
