I would be interested to know if these newer Zoom pedals are actually sound better. I’ve got an MS70-CDR and other Zoom pedals, and they just cannot compete against some of the AUv3 plugins like the Eventide Blackhole or Bleass Shimmer reverb. These plugins sound so much better.
Expansive reverbs are really difficult to produce in the budget market of pedals, you’re looking at spending several hundred to get that sort of quality.
Lon time ago, Zoom FX were not very good. But for a couple of years now, they are as good as the big name. The CDR cost a fraction of others pedal and will compete against any pedal from any price range. Some people will probably snob this pedal, but I would be curious to know how people score in a blank test. The original CDR was really great, but I'm curious about this one. The spring reverb on my Zoom G3NX is really really good.
It's fun to have individual pedal for more control, but it's also fun to have a lot of really great chorus, delay and reverb for a small price.
One of the weak point of the original CDR was the pitch shifter (and by the same token the shimmer) and from a couple of sample I heard from the new model, it is now better.
I have the original and it was great value for money.
I dedicate my original to my Microkorg and it works well in that application.
You can install and configure what effects you like on several of the old series like the G1on, B1on and others via a librarian of the whole suite of effects and a few custom user created ones, of course the G1 and B1 only have mono input.
